Who should take this course?
This course is mainly for swim coaches who want to learn more about how the swimming machine works, but also applies for swimmers themselves or swim parents who love to learn. Swimmers improve most when they believe in the workout and training they are doing. Most coaches know what they do, but few know why they do it leaving swimmers with little trust in their training. Coaches who can simply and accurately explain the "why" behind the "what" will get the most out of their team. This course is designed to fill that gap.

"Karl's book has helped me understand and even enjoy the very difficult topic of human physiology. I laughed (who knew glycolysis could be funny?) and I continue to refer to various chapters throughout the season for support and clarification.
Karl explains the complexity of the human body in clear, simple language that helps both coaches and athletes get straight to the point.
"How can I go fast?"
For example, last summer I read the Taper chapter to my group three weeks before our big meet and we had the most drama-free Taper I've ever been a part of. We had a common language and noticed and named every stage along the way, and this helped all of us feel confident in the process and normalized the sensations that generally trigger uncertainty and doubt.
We're doing the same thing with energy systems and I've never had more buy-in with both specific sets and overall cycles because we've got clarity around their purpose.
Thank you, Karl, your book has helped me be a better coach"

"I bought the book months before I signed up for the online course. I would read it at home bring it to the pool and even brought it to a competition I attended back last November because I just wanted to devour and apply as much of the information I could.
I appreciated that Karl and the Swim Smart team came up with the online program where he goes through the book chapter by chapter because it clarifies and expands on some of the points in the book. He also talks about a few things and makes points that aren't in the book and gives visuals by drawing on the screen. I found it helped because I'm a visual learner.
It was a great program. I liked that included a psychology component to it (last chapter) that really helped me. I loved learning that much more about my swimming machine and I hope to dive deeper into it" will
