Hello and welcome to the lecture on insights into addiction. It came to my attention not too long ago, and I've been surrounded by addicts my entire life. being raised by alcoholics, I experienced quite a bit of pain. I spent years learning about and healing from the impact of addiction. With all the healing work I've done on myself, addicts still hang around on the periphery of my life. They're like subconscious projections of ghosts, reminders of what could be.
People get addicted to anything. Drugs, cigarettes, alcohol, sex, work, electronics, food. If something exists, then there's an addiction for it. And they're generally fueled by some unusually strong past trauma, they get stuck into the subconscious The situation increases in complexity with physical and or chemical dependency. In my observations, the foundation of many addictions are based in unresolved grief. Usually, it's a grief rooted in the loss of self.
Somewhere in the course of living, many addicts have lost a part of themselves. It's as if a giant hole has been created. And they use whatever means available to try and fill the Abyss and bring themselves back to wholeness. And highly sensitive people seem to be particularly vulnerable. The internal hole created by past trauma is just too much. And they use anything they can get their hands on to numb the pain.
On the other hand, some people come into this life experiencing addiction as their karma. It's their life path up to the very end. For some the power of addiction may be too strong to overcome their genetic or chemical predisposition. It's just easier to die, that to deal with the depth of the problem. So that's it for some basic insights I have into addiction. So let's go on to the next lecture to learn about strategies and techniques you can use to help you with diction.
So I'll see you there.
