Hi guys, welcome to Shopify x. Thanks for signing up to what we believe will be the market leading SEO course for Shopify store owners anywhere around the world. First of all, just want to explain who we are, and why we decided to create this course. My name is john Oh, I run, own and run a SEO agency here in Australia. I'm also a partner in two other agencies, one here in Australia, and one in the UK. And combined, we work not only in the e commerce space, but also in the local and national search engine optimization market, working with national medium sized and also small businesses.
And we've also in the last couple of years, really expanded our reach in the e commerce market. And Shopify has played a lot Roll in that expansion, especially in the UK, the we've done a lot of work with WooCommerce, which if you don't know is the WordPress version of e commerce. It's a plugin to work with COMM And WordPress WooCommerce has gained quite a large market share over the last couple of years. And then Shopify came on the market, and certainly made a very big dent very quickly into the e commerce market around the world. There's a number of reasons for that. First of all, it's very easy to set up and use it's very intuitive.
And the company behind Shopify, all the guys behind Shopify really have done a great job of marketing the product and it simply works. So that's a little bit about who we are we we manage and work with stores around the world combined multiple millions of dollars in sales per day. So we've got quite a bit of experience, not only with Shopify but with WooCommerce WooCommerce and e commerce in general. And then also a very strong foundation in search engine optimization in general. And that core foundation to ensure site rank and start generating traffic and sales. So why we decided to create this course.
Firstly, as I mentioned, Shopify is a great platform and it's really simple to use and simple to, to get up and going very quickly. And also, because of that, it allowed a low barrier to entry for a lot of people to come into the market with courses and tutorials and ways to generate traffic and sales immediately. And so that that's meant there's been an explosion of courses focusing a lot on Facebook ads, Google AdWords and and that can work really well. But obviously, it's not the only way you can generate traffic. And as soon as you switch and turn your ads off, you stop that immediate traffic coming in. So what we wanted to look at a little bit more deeply is how Shopify reacts to search engine engine optimization.
Haven't really found a lot of information on this. There's there's a number of tutorials out there and and there are some courses that we've, we do it every day, we optimize Shopify stores for our clients. And so we thought it was time to to bring some information to Shopify store owners that can really help them build that sustainable store over the long term. With search engine optimization, once you improve your rankings and traffic, you know, if done correctly, you'll get settling of the rankings and the steadying of the traffic and you can you can start to count on that traffic day in day out and generating those sales. So this course is why is not only for experienced now Shopify store owners and you may also have a lot of sales already and doing quite well. But it's also for store owners who have just started and are trying to generate those first sales or generate that traffic, it's going to help them expand their business over time.
So what do we expect and also what we assume of you guys, and we're not going to go through in detail how to set up a Shopify store, although we will, there is a module on installing Shopify but setting up products and really delving into that the setup of the store. We're not going to go to To deploy into, there's plenty of free tutorials on the net, and other courses out there where you can look at how to do that. So what we're going to be focusing on mainly is stores that are already existing or, and that can include brand new stores. And we're going to walk you through the process that we use to first of all, ensure the foundation of the store is correct and optimized correctly for the current status of what Google in the search engines like to see. And then also, the second element of sound SEO campaign, which is the off page element to look at how the rest of the internet value and Google values your store itself, and then starts to value your pages and set up your rankings where they need to be and improve them over time.
So now we can just work through and I'll discuss how the course is going to Going to work and the modules that are involved. And what each module module is actually about. won't go into too much detail here. This is just an introduction video. And but just just to give you a bit of an understanding the step by step process we're going to take. So module one is market research.
So essentially what we're going to do here is go out and use free tools to get an idea of what your how large your market is, what your markets doing, what your competitors are doing. And then we can look at elements such as keyword research, and competitor analysis to really get a handle of where you need to be in your particular market. Then we're going to move on to Module Two, and module two will be about the site audit of your existing store. If you don't have a store yet, that's no problem at all. As you get your store your store set up. This module is going to give you a much greater understanding of how you're actually your mark works, and how to audit your site over time as your site as your store starts to grow.
Module Three will just go quickly into how to install Shopify. As I mentioned, there's many free tutorials how to do this. But there's also elements of install on Shopify that you just need to get right to ensure that the foundations are correct. So we're starting from a good place where mistakes optimize the site. Then in module four, we're going to look at themes. There are many different themes you can use, obviously free themes that come with the Shopify platform.
There's also paid themes. Not all themes are the same, and not all themes can be optimized correctly. So we're going to look at some of those. And we'll also look at a recommended same app that I use quite a bit and it works very well for optimizing stores in Google module five, we're going to look at apps an app, you could look at it as an equivalent to a plugin for WordPress. So an Apps just a bit of software or code that you can install on your Shopify store. And that can improve the functionality and the features of your store.
And there's many areas where this can help improve the organic positioning of your site also. Okay, so now we get as we go into module six, we move into the core on page, setup and optimization of your store. So we're going to look at the homepage, how we set that up correctly, and what the search engines are looking for, for your particular market. Module seven, we're going to look at collection page optimization collection pages, the equivalent of a product category page on other platforms. And I love working with collection pages if they can act like a hub for your optimum ization. And there's a lot that you can do.
And a lot of stores I see out there that are just as a bit of an oversight when they build them and missed opportunities with building collection pages modulite, we're going to look at the product optimization is a spelling mistake there in my slide, that's fine product page optimization for your particular products within your market. And again, there's ways that you need to set up your product page properly to ensure the search engines can value them correctly. This includes images and obviously your, the from the keyword research we do. And we'll also delve a little bit into conversion optimization or product pages. module on internal linking. internal linking is, we believe an incredibly important and critical path.
Have any not only an eecom store, but any website, and many SEO is no this, but someone who just got a ecommerce store or a site set up, and sometimes don't understand the importance of this. So we'll look at internal linking between the pages of the site, and how this can boost and affect rankings of the store. Module 10, we'll look at images, images. Again, very importantly, to make sure we have images set up for both speed and optimization, module 11. schema, you might not know what schema is yet, that's fine. We're going to go into it in detail in this module. schema is essentially code or information we can put in the back end of the site that tells the search engines a little more information and provide a little more relevance for a particular page.
The good thing is Shopify has schema built in, but we're just gonna tweak that a little bit and edit Little bit more to help the search engines really understand what a particular page is about module 12. We're going to go through and look at URL structures of the Shopify store. There. With any e commerce store, there are some drawbacks that you need to be aware of. And it's very easy to create duplicate content and duplicate content is not something that you want to have on an e commerce store, and then any website for that matter. There's, if you're not careful, it's easy to create these problems.
So we'll go through how we can minimize and mitigate the issues of duplicate content on our tag pages, paginated pages, and no overall structure of the site if you don't understand that now. That's fine. We'll get into it in more detail during through these modules. Module 30 blogging collection page content, creating content and using your blog features, whether that's within the Shopify store itself, or you can create a separate blog can really enhance the optimization of your store. So we'll work through how to set up your blog correctly, how to use your blog and your content to boost your overall store module for a one to site set up, and we've got it optimized correctly, then we need to go and add it to Google Analytics Webmaster Tools. Again, a pretty simple step, but if not done correctly, you can miss bits along the way.
Module 15 building brand authority This is where we get into the off page part of the course. And we'll talk here about how to start building your brand and getting your brand out there to other sites and other parts of the market and that can really get your your brand and your site off to a good Start module 16 will go through a link audit of your site and also competitor sites and just can give you an understand understanding of how links work and how links. inbound links can benefit your site. And it also how poor quality and spammy links can cause problems. Module seven aim we'll look at some white hat link building outreach. Got a pretty cool strategy, again, not reinventing the wheel, but just a nice step by step strategy where you can outreach with a system to find quality relevant links pointing back to your store.
Modulating will go into advanced link building. There's some pretty pretty nice strategies here and we'll show you how to find and build quality links. This is getting into the as I mentioned the more advanced properties of the course. But if you follow a step by step process, There's nothing rocket science about this. It's just following the system. Module nine, as we work through all these modules, you'll see that there, you know, there's quite a lot of work involved.
And some of this we can outsource. So are we putting forward some of our recommended outsources that we use, and recommending some services, where if you want to spend that money, and you've got the budget to do so you can have other people do it for you. They've just got a few bonuses and these bonuses will actually be added on as we as time goes on. So the Evergreen nature of this course, you get lifetime updates. So we'll just things change and update as it always does. In the digital landscape, we can just add on extra bonuses and updates here.
What good in here at the moment is email, funnel setup. Again, not rocket science, but there's ways and means of doing this properly.
