In this lesson you're going to be learning how to play the minor scale fourth position. I consider this scale position the second most important of all five positions. The reason it's more important to learn than say the second or the third position is because the root is based off of the fifth string. When you're playing chords based off of the fifth string, you will most likely be playing a chord based out of the fourth position. So it's very handy to know your minor scale fourth position. If you look at a large amount of guitar solos in minor, you will see that the positions used most often are the first and fourth position.
That doesn't mean you shouldn't learn them all really well. It just means that you'll probably use positions one and four the most often. Let's take a look at how to play the minor scale four position, the minor scale position for I'm going to go ahead and do a minor scale position for it since for position three, I use the minor miles we'll use a minor position for right here, it's still kind of in the middle of the neck. And this is what it looks like here. I want to play D minor, I would just start here on D. But C minor, B flat minor. You use the exact same fingering.
You just slide it around for position for wherever you whatever skill you want to play, you just stop with your first finger. Like if I want to play G minor. I start on G right here. Alright, so let's do a minor position for I'm going to start here on one on E going to go one, two, flat 345 flat six flat 712 Last 345, flat six, flat seven. Coming back, flat seven, flat 6545321, flat seven, flat 654, flat 321, flat seven, flat Six, five. Then we're going to go back up to one, five, flat six, flat seven, in the back the E which is one more time, one, two, flat 345, flat six, flat, 712, flat 345 flat six, flat seven.
Going back, flat seven, flat 654, flat three to one, flat seven, flat 654, flat three to one, flat seven, flat 6556, flat seven, one. That's how you play the minor scale position four. As I mentioned at the beginning of this lesson, position one and position four are the most commonly used minor scales. You want to make sure that you have them down really well.
