Intrinsic part of your brand is your portfolio and how you present it as an artist, I am sure that you have heard the term portfolio before. But what is it exactly? And what should it include? In simple terms, a portfolio is a body of work of yours, which you will be sharing with the world using different methods be digital or printed. It has to show the three following traits, consistency, selectivity, and authenticity. In the world of art specialty is considered as cold.
This means that the more your work is seen as niche or specialized in one category, the better it is seen. This is particularly true when your work is being viewed or reviewed by art experts like gallerists and art brokers. Frankly, If you're a photographer, you would be expected to be either a landscape, portrait or street photographer etc. But not all of them at the same time. If you touch on many domains of photography styles, you will be considered as a generalist and this is less considered by art experts. In fact, if in your portfolio you should too many mix styles, your work may not be seen as being consistent.
That said, if you're a generalist, this is totally All right. It shouldn't stop you from searching for exhibition opportunities. My advice here is that you curate your work and make various portfolios in the diverse art styles your master consistency will then lie in the different categories or sequences of the odd status of your art. You want to give the best impression at first sight? selectivity here means that your portfolio should be restricted to your best work and material. When I talk about authenticity, I mean that the portfolio should be reflecting.
You can inspire yourself from others works, but don't be them or even tried to copy them. Simply Be yourself. The idea is that you try to convey your mission or vision as an artist.
