How to Play Music by Ear - From the Basics to Fluency - Part 1 – Rhythm

Description: In this course, I will be taking you through a series of movements, counting exercises, and real-life examples to teach you how to connect your body to the rhythms around you. You will learn how to listen to different songs and learn where the beats are, when and where to clap in a song, and most of all how to gain confidence in your musical ability while having fun.

What will students learn in your course:

  • Discover the underlying building blocks of music
  • Internalize your sense of rhythm
  • How to find the beats in a song
  • How to count and clap on the right beats
  • A simple drum and percussion lesson for anyone
  • Learn about different time signatures

The goal of this course is to get your body moving and in contact with the music that surrounds us. So the pre-preparation project will be simply to walk, walk down the street, walk in a park, wherever it doesn't matter. While you are walking I want you to simply feel the pulse, the rhythm that you are making with your feet. Fast or slow it doesn't matter, I just want you to be aware that by walking you have already proven that you have rhythm. See you in class.

I am including a document with links to help you purchase an egg shaker which will be used in class #16.
