Hello again, this is your host Habib's Korea. And in this slide we will be talking about bootstrap router. And bootstrap is actually an alternative solution to auto Rp. In our previous lab, we covered auto RP configuration. And we have gone through the process of you know, automating the, the advertisement of the rendezvous point routers to the rest of the network nodes in the industry wanted to have something more standard and as a result bootstrap solution came into picture. This is an open standard solution.

It is alternative to auto RP solution which was provided by Cisco and it's very simple and easy. easy to follow once basically you configure our ra GP routing and establish full convergence in your network. There will be two roles that you need to add to the network and these roles are number one RP candidate and RP candidate is similar to the auto RP router announcement. The difference is RP candidate will basically advertise itself through unicast, Pim to the BSR router, that BSR router could be the same router or could be in could be a role in a different router. So bootstrap router this will advertise the RP information to the other routers. It will act as a mapping agent.

So That's exactly the same idea, but it's a little bit more refined, as you can tell. The good news here is both the roles are added to the network and and, and there is no more multicast and advertisements that will be happening on the network because it does it using unicast IP address. So let's start with the with the lab and hopefully we can go through the steps and and you know, implement this somehow in a real world situation that you may enter into. This is the lap. Basically we have our four r1 connected via a T one line, or a serial line and r one is connected to one switch and r three and r two are two separate sites. So basically according to the task we will implement Pim, SM operation and adjacency.

So we will add Pim sparse mode into all the interfaces that will be needed to work in, in this network and we will implement the rendezvous point and according to the task number two, we will use the loopback addresses and our four will be the rendezvous point for this network. r1 will be the bootstrap router and we will test our solution. Basically I'm thinking to choose our two as the as the client and it will basically join a multicast group and we will ping it from our three So this is the whole idea of this lab and it's very practical lab actually. And so let's start. So, in nutshell the the network is established and we will basically start with the, we will see I mean if there are if the if we need to add IGP routing information into the routers or not if it's already added, then we will directly move on to the Pim sparse mode configuration.

Okay, so let me bring our force console. Okay, I have our ones console. So if I do show IP OSPF I don't see any neighboring here. And if I do show IP interface brief I do have the interfaces and the loopback address that we want to use. So that's good. So, let me just do the OSPF configuration I want to advertise all the interfaces to the OSPF network.

And that is done analysis we have serial interface as zero slash zero and loopback interface Oh. Okay. So this is one of the thing like I have not yet enabled IP multicast routing but I wanted to show you that if you try to add IP Pim sparse mode As you can see we got a warning. So that's what I was mentioning the other time in my previous lab so let's add that. So for now we are done with our folder. Let me bring up our one console.

Let me save this. I have our ones console here. So first thing I will check the interfaces. So we do have the interfaces here we have a serial interface as well as the connection to the LAN interface and the loopback interface. So, show IP OSPF neighbor I don't have OSPF routing protocol applied in this router. So let me first apply the router OSPF information router OSPF one.

I do see some adjacencies formed already with our four let me do the multicast show IP interface brief Okay, so we have three interfaces. In the real world if I'm given a project to to implement IP multicast network I will definitely use use utilize bootstrap rather than auto RP because I would like to keep my configuration in as much as I can towards standard standardization and so in the future if other routers other than risco other than Cisco come into the picture, the company's not at a loss they will have more options to integrate with different routers. So, yep, so we have basically show IP. So we do have neighboring as you can see with the Pim, Pim neighbors ship relationship is done here. Let me bring Archie's console. I have out to his console.

So let's check the interfaces first. I do have neighbor ship here. So I'll complete the multicast multicast routing information. Save that the last router that we have is our three. Let me bring the console for our three. I have the console for three here.

So show IP interface brief. I apologize I'm doing a lot of skipping today because it's been a long day for me But I hope you guys can follow through the steps here. So show IP OSPF neighbor to check the neighbor ship. So we do have neighbor ship here. What I will do right now is advertise the IP multicast nodes interface, fa zero slash zero IP Pim sparse mode and let's create another interface here for our three which is a loopback interface. Save that.

So we do have a Pim neighbor ship here, stablished for our three. That's good. So let's move on to our next next task, which is to have our four and add the role of RP to router four. So let me bring the our four console is here, which is good. So in order to make this router, the rendezvous point Simple we will just add a small command here, which is basically IP Pim RP candidate, and we will use loopback zero. So So let's do that.

So if I go into the global config mode and I'll just say IP PE m r p candidate loopback zero. Excellent. So let me save that. And now if I bring our one Okay, let me bring our one. I have r1 here and r1 will basically become our bootstrap router. So according to the tasks here, so there's one command here we need to add is IP Pim.

BSR. Candidate loopback zero. Save that. So this is done, the configuration is done for candidate RP candidate and BSR candidate in this network. So let's, let's make r1 a client and let me bring the r1 console our tos console, sorry. And we will have it join an AI igmp group.

So our two loopback interface join the group 239 dot one dot one dot one. We will try to ping it now from r three and see if it's successful. Can I have the console for r three and let's meet try paying two three Nine dot one dot one dot one. As you can see we are successfully pinging the ad group 239 dot one dot one dot one. So, this is good news. This was the basically the aim of this lab and we have achieved our purpose.

There are certain commands that you need to remember in order to check if everything is working well on these routers that you have configured into your multicast network. The first command is show IP Pim RP map mapping. Basically this tells you which route is your is your RP router. And this information is coming via bootstrap as you can see and Four dot four dot four dot four is our RP is our RP router which is router four here and this this is very important command to know show IP Pim RP mapping and the the other command is show IP Pim VSR router and this is our BSR router as you can see. So with this I conclude the this course I hope you have enjoyed the course. My apologies if my voice was running out or becoming dry.

It's it's because of the weather here in Canada is very, it's it's been changing everyday. And that has caused me a little bit of you know dry throat at times when I'm especially Training this course. But we went through with this course very successfully and I hope that you'll provide a nice review. And, and with that, I will create a lot more courses that will benefit everyone in in the networking field. Thanks again and I'll see you soon
