Thanks so much for stopping by. I'm Dr. Mitchell schwindt. I'm a board certified emergency physician. But that's not what I'm passionate about. And that's not why you're here. years ago, I felt like I saw the same patients over and over again, in the emergency department.
I wasn't really impacting any change, I might be saving their lives, treating their heart attacks, taking care of a car crash victim. But I'd see these same people over and over again, it didn't matter if I was in an urban area or small rural area. I felt like I wasn't really making impact. And that's why I started to explore longevity research and functional medicine. What is functional medicine, you might ask is the ability to go upstream before a problem fully develops, to interact with people before for example, insulin resistance and high blood sugars turn into full blown diabetes and all the complicates. That you are well aware of that go along with that catastrophic problem.
Functional Medicine allows me to interact with patients and coaching clients and some of the athletes I work with, to really help explore their unique needs. It's a personalized approach to medicine, healthcare, that you just can't get in a hospital setting. And it's very difficult for, in my opinion, many of the primary care physicians to have that ability as well. I worked in that setting for a number of years. And literally, I felt like we were hurting cattle in and out of the doors fast as we could just trying to stay ahead of the crush of patients. And I felt like we were doing a disservice to people they didn't get their concerns listened to.
We were already focusing on what we're going to do next, or how to do next just to stay ahead of the patients that charting the administrative work and all that. Fortunately, about six years ago, I met a group of passionate entrepreneurial physicians and saw that there was a better way to use my talents, apply my passions, my desire is to help people and work on a larger scale as opposed to just one on one and that's How this blog came to be, I started to share some just simple information about common health problems, how to save time and potentially money, and how to impact a greater scale of people besides just the one on one interaction, let's face it, there's only a finite amount of time in every any given day. And the ability to help multiple people is limited by that factor alone, let alone fatigue in the crazy hours of working as an emergency physician.
