Hello, in this video, we are going to take a look at comments. So comments essentially allow you to do one of two things. First, they allow you to essentially annotate some code comments are not run. And they are used a lot for like said annotating code. So you can describe what some code does, maybe you have some complex algorithm or a complex function, and either for yourself at a later date, or for somebody else that will offer developing, they can see what the overall thing is doing, instead of let's say, you know, trying to figure out the 20 or so lines or however long their function maybe they can get a quick glance on the table, one line comment or two long comment, let's say it does such and such. And that's the end of next say, okay, that doesn't the function that I really want, they can have a look on the one Okay, that does this last the function that I want.

So that is what you can do with comments. nothing you can do is something called commenting out code basically disables code off In a second so to do a comment, there are now three different ways technically you can do double for slash up for this because this is heavily used in a lot of programming languages. And if I put something like it prints out, hello, save then we're gonna run it as you can see, it's not there for you go into you know, the HTML inspection, it's not there either. So comments are removed before it even now the page gets processed and interpreted and you know, converted into, you know, HTML form. So this will just basically not get you but it's a great way of annotating code. Another way that you can do it is using a hash filter say, you know, this is a nother method or commentary.

If I reload again, same thing, it all works. Again, I still prefer this method but you can use this as well. So if you want to, you know, do a common that ends up being pretty long, so maybe spanned multiple lines. So, line two, probably a little longer than this, but line three as you can see this can get a bit tedious. So there is a way of essentially commenting out code that span multiple lines if you put if you are doing here so you can actually see what happened if I do forward slash Asterix, as you can see, commented out every single piece of code to hit a Asterix for slash anything between here including on the same line. There is a comment on say, Hello, this.

This is awesome comment. Oh yeah. In PHP, and PHP. As you can see, I haven't had to have, I don't have to constantly do the four slash asically, this would produce an error, you know, wouldn't work. So if I say hello, and as you can see, Easter will still continue work in the same way. Next thing I want to show you is now what I was talking about is commenting out code you can any one of these, you know, use, you know, use this method for commenting and commenting a single line of code, use this method for commenting out multiple lines of code that are together.

So if I want to, you know, comment this out, for example, and I want to see what happens when this code isn't there. But necessarily, I'm not too sure if I want to delete here. I'm basically sort of testing to disable it. You can come to that by doing basically that and if I run that, now Boom, hello is gone. And if we have a look, hello isn't there, um, it's not in the HTML, Eva. But if I remove the common tag, and there we go, it's all working now.

So that's commenting our code really useful. If you have a bunch of code, maybe not quite working the way that you want it to, and you want to try and figure out, you know, you have a suspicion that he's probably only wanting to learn the code that's breaking it. So instead of, you know, deleting the lines of code, because there's more problem to that, one, you might mess up the clipboard, and you might appear to undo it, too. You might be you might actually save and close it down, or maybe your computer crashes. So with this, it doesn't matter if you save any computer crashes, because it's still there. You just need to go here and uncomment it.

So that is it for comment. Any questions, feel free to drop me a message. And I also want to say one last thing about comments. It's one of those things that especially when you're in education and you do an assignment you just Don't want to come in code, you're thinking I don't want to do a Oh, I leave it to the end. Trust me, you never do it when you leave it to the end. So you want a common code as you go along.

Obviously, don't really, you know, be commenting every single word or every single line, you've got to get a balance between your progress in and you know, commenting your code as well. But make sure you do comment as you go along. So that's it. Thanks for watching, and I look forward to seeing you in the next video.
