In this lecture, let's begin talking about the IQ test and exactly what it measures. And what it is, is the IQ stands for intelligence quotient. It's a formula that takes into account your actual chronological age and compares that average is you out, comparing you to people in your age groups so that he compares you to your your peers. And what is it It was founded by Alfred Binet, who was a French psychologist around just over 100 years ago, in the beginning 1900s. And the original test was called the Stanford Binet IQ test, and what does it measure? It measures a few things, your analytical ability, your mathematical ability, pattern recognition, spatial recognition, and another interesting one, short term memory now it might look like short term memory doesn't belong here.

Right because those are all the other ones are actual skills and abilities, memory, something you might think like, oh, memory, you know, doesn't doesn't really fit here. But as you'll see as we go through the course meant short term memory, and let's call your working memory play a tremendous role in your total intelligence, because the more you can keep in your immediate memory and in your immediate working memory, which is essentially your consciousness, the more data you can sort of work with and process. So all these things are they they sum up to measure your total cognitive ability or potential studies have shown that higher IQs tend to correlate with success in life. And studies have also shown that IQ is something that's passed down. You can work to raise your IQ a little bit throughout your life, but not a lot. We'll talk about later and of course, we'll talk about other things you can do that will make a significant difference in your life.
