Now that we've covered self awareness, let's talk about how to begin applying self awareness. And a part of applying self awareness is self management. And a lot of the self management starts with, of course, it's all has equally much to do with having more good emotions and positive emotions. But certainly you don't want to have the destructive negative emotions. And there's a, it sounds simple, and there's a really big difference between just letting your emotions hanging on your sleeve and being able to control them. And the only factor in it is that you have to slow down.

You cannot jump to conclusions, you cannot let negative emotions just jump over you cannot let and this is important. You cannot let your interpretations of events dictate your reactions because your interpretation may not be accurate. And if you jump to it interpretation of an event that triggers anger, frustration, anything, you know, irritation, if you don't give yourself enough time, if you don't slow down your brain, if you don't, if you just let yourself have a visceral reaction, then it's very likely that you overdrafted or acted too fast. And if you had slowed down, you would have realized all maybe that's just how I perceived an event. And it's not really the actual, it's not what the person meant. And they just you just end up working yourself up.

How many times has it happened, where we get angry, we send an email, we say something and then we realize we really shoot them down that and that roll that is just slow it down and pay attention to your trains of thoughts and how you came to this conclusion. Now, let me explain that just very tiny bit about of science about around us. So the part of your brain that handles anger and fear, they're very closely tied, and it makes sense because you know, A lot of the it's like the animal brain, the lizard brain handles fear and anger. And what do animals do when they have fear? It's not rational, right? They're not like completely rational like us.

But they lash out they attack, right? And so do we sometimes when we let that amygdala part of the brain, which is like the lizard part of the brain, the very ancient old part of the brain that developed first, or if not first, was one of the first. And that's the animal brain only knows. fear, anger. That's all that's it. And what we have to do and what actually what happens when you slow down, your evolve part of the brain begins to take over a little bit.

And you need to give yourself a little bit of time because when you allow your lizard brain that is when you have anger when you have this kind of fear and let it take over. Your body start your body chemistry has this natural, natural fear response like adrenaline starts, all those things start and you just have to know. Be aware, even though your body says fight, get angry everything. You have to tell yourself and be aware, no, no slow down. I'm going to rationalize this. And most likely, most of the time, you're going to be grateful that that happened.

Of course, some instances in life. You need that anger and stress, because those are the natural survival skills. But keep in mind that we're no longer chased by wolves or lions in the jungle, like, we it's really rare in our life that we have to immediately lash out like an animal. What's much, much, much more common is that we are in a society with rules and you know, we have to live in that society as your job. Your college, your wherever you are, then you spend most of your time you have to come back tomorrow, the same people, you'd have to see them tomorrow. So if you handle things well instead of letting anger can take over, or negative emotions take over, then you be that far ahead.
