Welcome back to the next section of continuous personal development. Here we're going to talk about what is continuous personal development? And why should you do it? And how will it affect you in life and your career. So what is continuous personal development? Well, it's defined as the conscious pursuit of personal growth.
By expanding self awareness and knowledge, and improving personal skills. I'd like you to take personal note of these three things. It's expanding your awareness, and specifically awareness of yourself. It's expanding your knowledge base, learning more in several areas, and it's improving your skill set, which in turn makes you more valuable in the marketplace. So keeping that in mind, why is continuous personal development important for you? Well, let's look at a couple reasons.
One, it develops your string You are put on a path that leads from being good at something to being great at something. You also learn new skills that become tools you have for the future. And these tools can come in handy in ways you may never have predicted confidence becoming better at what you already do. And developing more skills builds more competence and confidence leads to more accomplishments. People in organizations are attracted to those who have confidence and confidence helps you push further toward taking the risks you need to take in order to find greater success improves your self awareness. You get to look closer at the areas of your life where you do well and those that need improvement.
You get more direction in life and a better understanding of what areas you want to develop. We need to spend a portion of today getting ready for tomorrow we need to spend a portion of this year Getting ready for the next year, you need to develop the skills that make you valuable tomorrow. This all starts with personal development. And if money is your main concern in life, which I hope it isn't, or doesn't continue to be for long. If you hope to be wealthy in life, you may consider this quote, income rarely exceeds personal development. So, in order to get more than you have today, you need to become more than you are today.
And if money isn't your biggest concern, then how about getting a job? How about going further in your career? How about rising up that corporate ladder or creating and developing your own company, just about wherever you go, you'll find that competition is high. So keep this in mind. Competition for a job can be huge. It isn't always that easy to get a job, and it certainly isn't always that easy to get the job.
You want continued personal balance. helps you become more competitive. When you graduate from university, will you have gained certain skills that will make you valuable to companies? Perhaps? But how will you be different than all the others who have gone through the same educational process? What will make you different than what will make you different in the future?
How are you going to stand out from the crowd? And once you do have a job, or perhaps you create your own business, you want to do what you can to keep progressing, keep accomplishing and keep being successful. Education doesn't stop when you leave the university. Education is a lifetime process, and you now need to become self educated. So never stop learning. Now, we all know who Warren Buffett is right?
Well, he had something to say about personal development, quote, unquote, ultimately, there's one investment that supersedes all others. investment in yourself. Nobody can take away what you've got in yourself. And everybody has potential they haven't used yet. What potential Do you have that's just waiting to be unlocked? And what are the steps toward continuous personal development?
You might recall that I mentioned earlier, there are three particular steps toward personal development. However, we'll talk about those in our next lesson. To recap, what is continued personal development and why should you be interested in it? Well, number one, we talked about the definition of personal development, awareness of yourself a broad range of knowledge and improving your skill set to we looked at why is it important? strength, confidence in self awareness? And finally, how can it help you in your career?
Well, it's going to make you stand out and become more valuable in the marketplace. Okay, that's it for this particular round. Let's get ready for the next three steps toward personal Development
