Okay, now on to the third and final section of personal development, the mental. Here we are back at our goals, considering what knowledge and skills we want to acquire. Do you recall what you put in your goals? What skills do you need to acquire? Well, before we go there, I have a question for you. How would you define success?
Everyone sort of has a different answer, because quite often, success can be quite personal someone's definition of success could really depend upon themselves. On the other hand, others might see it as a universal answer. Go ahead and push pause for a moment and think, how would you define success? Someone once said that they know the definition of success and that is, success is being willing to do what others are not willing to do. If you only have the average education, and if you only put in the average amount of effort, what results can you expect You guessed it average, trying to answer these questions. What knowledge and skills do you need?
By now you probably have a pretty good idea. What knowledge and skills do you want? There's a difference between need and want. Need would probably take a higher priority than want. And where can you get these skills? Where can you get this knowledge?
Here's a clue books. It's not an accident that successful people read more books. After all, knowledge is power. Here's a vast amount of information that we can learn from books because what we learn from books are the experiences and failures and lessons from other people. How many books do you read a month? How many books do you read a year?
I hear that the average in America is about four books a year. I also hear that the average in South Korea is about nine nine books a year. But what types of books are people usually reading? Let's listen to Jim Rowan's take on reading. The habit of reading is a major stepping stone in the development of a sound philosophical Foundation, and in my opinion, is one of the fundamentals required for the attainment of success and happiness. All the books that we will ever need to make us rich, as healthy, as happy, as powerful, as sophisticated and as successful as we want to be, have already been written.
People from all walks of life, people with some of the most incredible life experiences, people that have gone from pennies to fortune, and from failure to success have taken the time to write down their experiences so that we might share in their wealth of knowledge. Almost everything that you need to know almost everything that can help you be the person you are want and need to be is out there in a book somewhere. You just need to take the time to get those books, read them, and implement that information. So let's think a little bit about books and your experience with books. Can you name one book that changed you in a positive way? If so, what was that change?
Can you name one book that you've heard about that you were hoping to read? It's on your list, but you haven't quite got it yet? What successful people would you like to read about? Who would you like to learn from? Take the time, study other successful people and learn from their experiences? Then let's go back to the final page of our worksheet under your mental condition.
Answer these questions. Number one, what skills Would you like to acquire list at least three skills? How and when do you plan to acquire these skills remember, everything needs to do today. And how will you add these skills to your schedule? And three, what books would you like to read? Take some time research and list at least three books that will help you in your mental development.
Go ahead, push pause and try to answer these questions as best possible. And if you can't think of three books off the top of your head, take a little more time after this lesson, do the research and see what books you can come up with. So, we've gone over the three parts to personal development, your philosophy, the physical and the mental. What changes Did you come up to help you with your own personal development?
