It is important to clarify and remove our own productivity myths in order to understand what does productivity means and what enhances work productivity at the individual level and organizational level.

  • It is not an output arising from input
    • One cannot measure productivity merely by outputs
    • Outputs give you volume but not raise work productivity
  • It is not the number of units produced
    • Units help increase quantity but not quality
  • It is not a task defining your job or measuring your output
    • The mere job description helps in defining work, but not raise productivity
  • It is not doing more work with less time such as multi-tasking
    • trying on too many things at one time does not merely raise productivity neither of the individual nor of the organization
  • It is not a workplace that enables me to be productive
    • The mere atmosphere cannot create a productivity excellence culture, while it is an important factor
  • It is not the result of social pressure or managerial pressure
    • social or managerial pressures lead to catastrophic effects on the individual on the contrary
  • It is not efficiency of workers or group of workers
    • Mere efficiency cannot bring effectiveness
