Hello, it's Rob Coburn here I'm going to show you how to add social media buttons so people can share your brilliant blog posts on Facebook and Twitter etc. So there are many free plugins on WordPress that will provide simple share buttons for you. And I'm going to use the simple share buttons add our plugin on WordPress. And as you can see, it's got a healthy star rating, over 405 stars. It's been installed over 100,000 times and actually in this case, it's been updated quite recently, only five days ago which is a good side. So in the WordPress administration side or the back end, we'll go plugins add new and we're going to search for simple share buttons adder or you could just search for share buttons adder or something like that.
And there's the one we want. So we'll go install now. Activate Plugin and then you can either on the plugins page, click on On settings, or you could go here settings, share buttons. Now the sharing is off here. But I only like to put share buttons on the blog posts. Now you may want to put them on the pages.
I wouldn't personally, because why would you want to share, contact us page. And really you don't often want to share an About Me page that kind of looks unprofessional much better, just to put them on the posts page so you can share a fantastic article. Now you can share them after the article before the article or both. I'm going to go for both. And you can choose which of the social sharing sites you want people to be able to share the article on. And they've got the main ones there already Facebook, Google Plus Twitter and LinkedIn.
I would usually go with those four. But let's drag in Reddit. Just make a point and we'll To save settings there by clicking this blue disk icon on the right, now we'll go back to the article and refresh. And look what we've got here we've got, it's only fair to share and the icons for the sharing sites. And just to check, see if we got it there it is at the bottom as well. The bottom is obviously a great place to put them.
People have read a great article, and they think I want to share it. So you click on Facebook, and you can share it there. You click on Google Plus, same thing. Click on Twitter, there's your tweet, it takes the title followed by the link, LinkedIn. And Reddit course, I'm not signed into Reddit. I'm not very happy about this typography here.
It's only fair to share. Let's see if we can change that. So we'll go into styling and you can change the image that that would be the way that the icons look. And you can change the size as well, we can make them a little bit bigger, not too much, the font I want to inherit from website, I think that will look much more appropriate. Now I'm going to increase the container padding a little bit because I thought it looked like it was a little bit too close to the top. So I'll save that.
And let's see if that improves, made them too big. So we'll go back and we'll decrease that button size and decrease the padding. Save that and refresh. That's much better. As you can see, it's much better to have that in not that funny scripty font, but a font that is the same as the rest of the website. And you can get rid of that text altogether.
So just delete the share text, save, refresh, and you just got the icons there think that's possibly better. One more thing. I like to do, and that's on the Advanced tab, you've got an option here to add some text on Twitter. So what I like to do is add by followed by the Twitter handle of the website. So if we save that, then if somebody tweets it gives it the title and then by at viable shop by the Twitter handle of the website, that means anytime somebody tweets that you are going to know that somebody tweeted out your article, and other people are going to know who the article is by so they can follow you. So very important thing to do on Twitter shares.
So I hope that helps. That's how to put social share buttons on your articles. And there are various ways of doing that. That is just one I would say you could use Sumo me plug in the free version. And that will put some share buttons down the side that are all Ways visible. So I'll show you that on my site.
We go into an article there. I've got three buttons at the top there. But as you scroll down, you've always got buttons there on the left as well as quite good. That's another plugin called Sumo me. So I hope that helped. My name is Rob carbon.
I'll see you in the next video.
