Hey everyone, welcome to this lecture, what is waste or muda? Before we jump into defining waste, we have to first understand the basic price. Let's begin. Lean experts define a process tap as value added. If the customer recognizes the value and is willing to pay for it, the process step changes or transforms the product and it is done right the first time. There are some activities that do not change or transform the product or service.
The customer is not willing to pay for these activities. You will call these activities as non value added activities. A classic example is defects causing to rework. The customer expects to pay for the number of hours promised to code the computer program, but does not want to pay the extra time required to fix the bugs caused by errors of the computer programmer. key step in making an organization more lean is the detection and elimination of non value added steps. I have been in the industry for 15 years.
The only thing I have done to effectively search the non value added activities is question everything. Of course, this guideline has to be taken with a pinch of salt. steps that are assumed to be necessary are often filled with opportunities for improvement. Asking the impertinent questions is the key. There are in all eight categories of wastes or muda. This list includes defects, overproduction, waiting, non utilized skills, transportation, inventory, motion, access processing.
Let's discuss Each of these wastes in the next two lectures. Thank you for attending this lecture. See you in the next one.
