Hi, creating a high quality price winning demo is a hard thing to do. But creating a quality demo isn't. So don't be a perfectionist, strive to get 80% of the perfection you're dreaming off and leave the rest for people that dedicate weeks or even months to a single demo, and maybe never finish it. How do we record the software demo? This is the way I do it. You of course can try a different way.
But this works for me. So I'd suggest first trying my way. First, I set up the environment. Then I record the demo speaking freely. After that I transcribe the audio and rewrite it. I edit the video, taking out the pieces that I don't need, and either speak about the audio from my edited transcript.
And finally, I married the audio with the video. All right, let's take the steps one by one first Setting up the environment consists of hiding the icons by clicking on the ScreenFlow menu bar icon and selecting the hiding icons, like in the video configuring and making a recording. If you're using the browser, you can clean the browser bookmarks and tabs tip. An easy way to clean your browser is just to use another one. If your main browser is Google Chrome use Safari for recording. That way you don't miss any deleted bookmarks.
Another way is to use Chrome's users features, go to preferences, settings, users and add a new user. That user will have a separate history, cookies and bookmarks and can be used only for recording. You can even use your brand as a wallpaper. The idea is to remove all the distractions so that the people watching can focus on what you're doing. Record the demo. Usually recording a demo takes five minutes instead of preparing for it beforehand.
Try this To speak, start recording and do all the necessary steps while speaking about what you're doing. At the end, you can discard the recording or use it if you think you've nailed it in the first try, then record again the second time. When you do this on your second recording, you'll feel more confident and get a sense of what you want to say and when this works better for me than preparing for the recording beforehand, to transcribe the audio and rewrite it when speaking while recording, your attention is distributed in two places at once. It's pretty hard to get your ideas across in this situation. So don't concentrate on what you say. Just speak freely and focus on the video.
Then after you finish recording, jot down what you've just said. then edit the text to the best of your ability. I recommend focusing on benefits and not only features. For example, the bad version ScreenFlow has 64 bit enabled compression with multi threaded SS II. The good version with ScreenFlow you can record the contents of your entire monitor while also capturing your video camera microphone and your computer audio. But voice ScreenFlow has call outs, transitions annotations, clips, key speed and highlights.
And the good version. The easy to use editing interface lets you creatively edit your video and that additional messages, images, music and transitions for a professional looking video. So focus on what benefits the reader has, and not on what the software can do. Remember, it's not about the words best seed. It's about the buyers best, not three edit the video, I've already introduced to you some of the technical skills needed for editing the videos. What you want to do is to cut everything that doesn't help your audience.
Use call outs to draw attention to specific parts of the screen, add text to underline what you're saying and blur out irrelevant items. Focus on the software you're demoing. Focus on the benefits it's providing and focus on the needs of the audience tip. only show the material that the audience is interested in. Don't show desktop icons, browser tabs or even passwords. You can set up the environment before the recording or at least blur the uninteresting items out for record your voice.
You have the video, but the truth is your audio sucks. Record your audio using your transcript. Don't play the video while doing this. It's better to get a clear focused audio and then sync it with the movie. Because in the case of screen recording, you can always edit the movie to keep in sync with the audio. If you want to sound more professional, you can also edit your recorded voice removing the ohms and ahhs.
But we'll leave this for another tutorial. Five, marry the audio with the video. Now you have a piece of audio and a piece of video, put both in ScreenFlow and sync them and then we finish. marrying your audio with the video is a bit harder than it sounds. Sometimes you may get more audio when then video. In that case, you can use the technique you've learned in the freeze frame video to speak while the screen has a static frame.
If instead you get more video than audio, you can accelerate a part of your video. Maybe while you're typing a password or waiting for a page to load. You can also put a product image on the screen during the session. Where your voice is out of sync with the video and cut the video behind the scenes. This five step method is just one of the ways you can record the demo. You can also do a voiceover on the recorded video so that you can always get in sync with the process.
I find this a bit unprofessional because you have a lot of places where you just wait for the software or internet page to load. You or you can even do a demo in one shot. Just record your screen and your voice and do a little bit of editing afterwards. The important thing is to find out what works for you. Good luck
