So this is the class supplies that we're going to need for our class. There are basically three ways you can do this. In all three ways, though, I suggest downloading the downloads the sheets here. The first one is for a list of the class supplies. And the first section is the supplies that I'll be using in class. But I do encourage you to use whatever you have on hand, make do, you don't have to use everything I use.
I'm just showing you one method. If you don't want to make your journal, and you just want to start with the actual journaling process, use an existing journal and any size will work. Or you can take an existing traveler's journal and insert the inserts that we're going to make in class into that so you have three methods to work on. If you're going to use journaling method we use in class and create your journal. I've included the sizes for the paper that you'll need to create the pages as well as the cover right here on the class supplies. I also have a list here of journal prompts that we will use.
These are just ideas and suggestions for you to use to fill your journal with different topics, different ideas, and feel free to take any of them and change them around. There are things such as basically new recipes, you want to try to something a little more deeper, where you consider questions, what positive things have come up this social distancing, and maybe illustrating your feelings, illustrating things that make you feel good, make you feel calm, and you could obviously modify that to take something from illustrating a prompt here, like what common This smells like to you, and you maybe want to illustrate something growing in your garden or a house plant. Feel free to change it up. These are just suggestions and guidelines to get you started. This other page here is a bunch of quotes that you can use you can actually cut out and include in your journal.
Some words to explore Might that are relevant to your journal and you might find very helpful. Do we have a list of 12 ways to stay positive during social distancing, a lot of the time, it's all stressor and negative. And what we really need to do is focus on the positive things and the things that we can control and benefit from and come out of the stronger. So I've included that list as well. And I hope you find that beneficial. Lastly, I have a page of copyright free images, and I'll use those in my journal.
You might find them helpful as well. Some are very light and frivolous flowers, a cup of tea key, some of them are a little more, they dive deeper, a clock, a map of the world. And then there's the typewriter, the corona typewriter, I thought that was very appropriate. Here's an empty bedroom. And then here's a photo of two boys from an earlier epidemic of the flu in early 1900s. And I just thought that was so emotional, appropriate and kind of brings everything full circle I have a list of the words that kind of are in our everyday vocabulary now that maybe weren't quite as prevalent, not so long ago.
And then I have an illustration from my journal that you might want to trace or cut out and use in your work. Now the other supplies that we'll need include just everyday supplies you might have at home or variations on this. Well, we'll start here I'm using wallpaper for the cover of my journal, because I happen to have this lying around. If you have wallpaper, feel free to use it if you have just cardstock or pattern paper or even just paper use that as well. I've included the measurements in the class supply list. And so I'll trim this down to size.
Then, depending on what type of journal you're going to make, you might want to use just regular copy paper if you're going to use pencils, or charcoal or something like that. And I have watercolor paper And this would be good for using acrylics it would be good for using watercolor and markers as well because it's nice and durable. I have some other colored paper, pattern paper, typically scrapbook paper that I cut down and I'm going to use this this is 12 inches long so this started out as a 12 by 12 sheet and I'll use this to make the pocket page because I to fold it I require more space. I also use a 12 by 12 page to back my cover page to give that a little more durability. And so I start with a 12 by 12 page. I'll adhere my wallpaper cut to size and then I'll trim it down.
My standard supplies include just any type of glue. This is a flexible drying glue but any type of glue will work. I have double sided tape and then I use washi tape to embellish. I have a bone folder to make nice score lines. Again, totally optional. It's not required.
Pencil and eraser, white gel pen I have a marker and then a regular pen to write with a ruler, a pair of scissors, and then your choice of medium. I always like to use a white colored pencil in my work to make marks on my colored paper, but you might want to color with colored pencils or markers or acrylic paint. Today I'll be using watercolor paint, but any medium will work. And really, this is about using what you have on hand.
