Here's the method that I use to create the cover for the journal. To make my cover I took my piece of heavier paper, my wallpaper in this case, and I cut it down and I cut it down to if I hold it this way because I intend to fold it just like this to make my cover. So I have it as eight and three quarters tall and 10 and a quarter inches long and I'll include these measurements in the download as well. So then all I do is I take some flexible glue and this is a fabric glue. It just dries flexible and I think it has a nice hold. And I use a piece of 12 by 12 paper.
It doesn't have to be 12 by 12. I like it because when I want to glue it I can cover my piece completely. And that way I'm not worried about matching up. And so all I do is I make a beat a glue around the edge fairly close to the edge. I want to get the edge covered really well. I can go back in and this glue is nice because it dries like rubber cement.
And anything that leaks out I can just rub off And then I'll just put in some glue throughout the inside here. Really, it's the edges that I want to make sure that I get with a nice adherence to. So after I have my glue put on, I'll take my wallpaper and just place it right on top. And I can try and go to the end here just so I have extra paper that I can use in the future when I remove it, and then I'm just going to burnish it right along the edge because of the tip of my glue has a nice sharper point. If there are any areas that did not get covered, I can go in there and just put the end of it right up against the paper just to make that nice edge. So I'll burnish it, flip it over and burnish it some more with my hands.
You can use a bone folder if you'd like. But then because it's heavy paper The weight of it's quite nice. And then I'm just going to take my glue again and go in some of these areas here that I didn't quite bring my glue to the edge and burnish it once more. Any glue that sleep seeps out I can just rub off like this. So now I'm just going to trim off the edge right here so that the paper is even on both sides and there's nothing hanging over. So now I have trimmed my edges here.
These are the pieces of paper that overhung it to set those to the side when I want to do is take my ruler middle do is I'll fold my paper in half just to create my book here my journal cover. Just gently press down the center not worrying about getting a sharp crease, but I just want to make sure I have the center marked and then I'm just going to mark half an inch from the top and half an inch from the bottom. Can I just use white because it'll not show up as harshly. So after I have my marks, I'll go in there with a paper punch. Find the mark and punch my hole on either end. So there I have the hole for my elastic for my binding.
You can leave it just like this. I like to round the edges. So I just take a corner rounder, you could also just use a pair of scissors and go around the head. And I'm just removing this that that right angle. From all four corners, I trim the edge and there I have my cover. Just like that.
