Greetings. I'm Professor Kay and in this short video presentation, we're going to see how we go about installing the Microsoft Active Directory Domain Services or a DDS role on to our server 2019. Installation. using PowerShell. Add S is a server role in Active Directory that allows admins to manage and store information about resources from their network, as well as application data in the form of a distributed database. Prior to the promotion of any server to a domain controller, he must first install the ad DS role, so as to prepare that machine to perform an act as a database for all the different objects that can be stored in Active Directory.
In our previous videos, we saw how we went about renaming the server in preparation for promotion to a domain controller. And we've saw how we go about configuring a static IP address for Same server in preparation of promoting it to a domain controller. And this third step, we're going to be preparing the database structure for the Active Directory database prior to promoting the machine to a domain controller. So to begin this process again, let's go to the start buttons. Let's just right click on it, and let's go to Windows PowerShell. And once you're up inside of the PowerShell, you're going to install this role for the Domain Services.
With one simple command will install the tools will install the database will do everything without having to use the wizard. Just one simple command will do everything. Install dash windows features that is a command lit and the command that we want to install is the ad dash domain dash services role. And we're going to add a switch at the end of this command that will install the management tools. Let's Go ahead and hit Enter. And now the process begins.
So once this add s roll has been installed, it's going to come back and it's going to give you some information, such as did it install successfully? That is true, does it need to restart no exit code is success. And the feature result is that the Active Directory Domain Services was successfully installed. And we can go up now. And we can take a look inside Server Manager and we can see the results of this installation. So if we go to Tools, you're going to see all of the different Active Directory snap ins that are now available to us.
These are all the tools that were installed with the ad DS role. Also, while you're up inside that Server Manager, if you go to the yellow triangle and you click on that message, it'll tell you that you still have to promote this server to a domain controller. And in our next video, we're going to see how we also do that using PowerShell. That's going to include the short video presentation on on how we go about installing the ad DS role using PowerShell. So if you have any questions or concerns about any of the material that was covered in this short video, please do not hesitate to reach out and contact your instructor and I'll see you in my next video.
