Hi, everyone, this is Greg and I just wanted to do this bonus video that complements my training on corporate leadership and people management. And today I wanted to share with you some new experiments that I'm currently doing at work. And one of these is the mastermind. I was looking for ways to engage my team and create gatherings team meetings that were more engaging and more motivating for them. So rather than going through the usual agenda, which I'm presenting into the course, I thought I would learn and use what I'm doing outside of work around the mastermind and bring it in work. At the beginning.
Obviously, it was quite difficult to explain and and convince my team that doing a mastermind was a good idea, and I had to explain what it is. But now that we're doing this for us, Several months, the team is actually giving me feedback that this is the best time and the best use of the time as a group that we ever had. So I thought I would just share it here. What do I mean by mastermind? mastermind, in my opinion, is simply gathering people around a subject, you put the subject in the middle of the of the table, someone brings, it brings a topic and it can be anything, a particular challenge they're facing on a project. A difficult stakeholder they deal with a presentation, they have to prepare for any topic really a conflict, a new creative solutions, they have to come up with whatever they want, really, and you just bring it to the mastermind, which is in this small group, and asked the others to give their opinion and ask you questions so that you can come up with new ways and new solutions to think about the problem.
So we do this in Small groups. And sometimes when it's the whole of my team, we might split in groups of three to five. And in turn, we would go and say, Okay, what do you want to mastermind on today? If they really don't have anything, and they didn't prepare for the mastermind, we just start by asking them questions. And you open up the debate with the group and just start with triggering some very basic general questions such as, What do you spend your most time on lately? What is the most challenging thing you you're doing those days?
And how could we help you best and naturally, people will come up with topics to discuss during the mastermind. I know it sounds a little bit unstructured and intangible. Trust me, just give it a try. And you will be amazed by the level of discussions that happen in those groups and the quality of the interactions you get between people. It's really creating the sense of team spirit. It's always also bringing everyone together so that they know what everyone is working on.
And it's creating this bonding that I was always looking for as a manager. Also make sure that you participate as a manager, not just as an observer and a coach, but also bring your topics. I didn't just this week, and one of the feedbacks I got is, Tommy, who told me, Greg, you know, the fact that you brought up the topic makes it more relevant because it really shows how you believe in this thing, and you play the game with us. So I recommend you to do the same. Also, I incorporated a rule, which is, I always start our mastermind sessions with three key successes. So we go around the table, and everyone come up with three successes, believe me, I was never expecting how difficult this would be for some people.
So it's a good exercise and it gets us used to celebrating and recognizing the good things we do. And it can be in and outside of work. Yeah, so really open the boundaries here and say, Look, if you want to share a success that is personal, you definitely can. Neal this week was sharing with us that he learned how to ride a bike, which we all thought was fantastic. So, open it up and learn about your people and make your team connect through those masterminds have those real discussions, not only you will drive engagement, but you also you will also share real situations and help your people to resolve problems together. This is how you create a sense of team spirit.
Associating people together, working together towards a common outcome is the best way to create an engaged team. So let's go mastermind and share your feedback. Tell me how it went. I'm looking forward to it.
