Oh, this will come in here. Now I just want to show you what wordfence has been doing in the last day or so firstly, we can see a circle with a number in it next to the wordfence link in the sidebar on the left hand side there. This means there are three notifications. And usually if you see this number, you should have a look at the issues and what they are. In this case, the three issues have been found in a recent scan. Now wordfence scans your WordPress install every day automatically in the free version for malware, for any differences in the files from the originals that are on the WordPress websites, and all sorts of things like that.
So if we click this here, free issues found in most recent scan, that will take us to the wordfence scan area. And as you can see, we could at any time Start a wordfence scan. We don't have to wait 24 hours for it to happen. But we didn't do that. But anyway, if we scroll down, we'll see the three issues here. And the first two are plugins that aren't out of date, but they haven't been updated by the plugin developer for a long time, one case six years in one month, and the other one was updated five years ago.
This is a very long period of time in WordPress history. Usually plugins tend to be updated a few times a year. And the last issue that was found in the scan relates to one of those plugins. It's actually identified a file in the plugin that had been changed from the original that is on the WordPress site. Now that sounds terrible. It sounds like a hacker has gone in and changed a file.
But actually I've checked the reason for this change. And I found that it really only had a few, a couple of changes in and they were related to firepower. That was specific to this website. So it needed changing, obviously, and there was a non malicious reason for this issue. However, I've looked at these two plugins and I don't really want them. And I don't think they're helping me that much.
So I'm probably well to just get rid of them. So I'm going to go into plugins now. And it's feed burner feed Smith extended plugin, which was a good idea to have at the time six years ago when I put it in probably not very useful. Now, WP minify is a plugin that may speed up the website a little bit, but I would suggest you use one of the caching plugins like w three total cache, or Super Cache in order to speed up your website because those two plugins are regularly updated. And WP minify isn't so I'm going to go into bulk actions after checking those and deactivate those two now. And once you've deactivated plugins, of course, what do you do?
You delete them. Okay, so that number three still exists next to the wordfence link there on the sidebar. So let's go into that again. And I think we can get rid of it by clicking that x there. Or we can go into scan wordfence scan and will click, I have fixed this issue. And now we have two notifications.
The other two notifications are more like news from wordfence. They may be the recent blog post on their site not particularly interesting is all if all you want to do is protect your WordPress site. So it is a minor criticism that I have with this plugin that it creates notifications for issues that are not relating to your website, particularly. But anyway, we'll get rid of those We'll talk about one of them gravity scan in another video. But that gets rid of the notifications. So it reminds us that we're all present and correct.
And we've fixed all the issues on our site at the moment, I'll just show you the firewall link now. And it's still in learning mode. Remember, it will be in learning mode for a week. And we're not really doing much with the site. At the moment, we're not creating any posts or pages. We're leaving the plug in to detect the normal traffic and conditions of our website so it can then apply the firewall.
And if we go back onto the dashboard is interesting statistics. We can see that already. We've had some IPS that are blocked. So people are trying to hack into this site. Already. It's only been running for 24 hours.
You'll see these countries like Bulgaria and Turkey popping up it doesn't particularly mean that they're hacking. are in those countries, they're just using IPS. They from that country, they could be doing that by proxy. So they could be anywhere in the world. But the fact is, we are blocking out hackers and attackers as they try to get in to this site with a malicious intent. So just a quick update of what wordfence is already doing for us in the first 24 hours, we'll come back again, and make sure that the firewall is in place, and I'll explain more about the plugin in the next video.
My name is Rob coven. I'll see you then
