Hello, this is Rob. I'm going to show you how to use a WordPress plugin to backup your WordPress website. And by that, I mean the database, the files everything to the cloud to, in this case, a Dropbox account. And we're going to do this using this plugin. It's called back WP up, although I like to call it back WP pup. And if you look at it on the repository, you see it's installed a million times, it's tested up to the current version.

It's been updated recently. So it's a trustworthy plugin to install. So let's go in plugins, add new up down here, of course we can do it up here. And we'll search for back WP up. And there it is, again, we can check last updated seven days ago here. Millions installs a little bit of a low star rating, but we are We're gonna ride with this, and it's compatible with our version of WordPress, which of course, is the latest version, Install Now.

Activate. Okay, so now it's activated, you'll see that there is a new link in the left hand sidebar of the WordPress administration area. So we can go add new job here. We can give the name a name to the job if you want, but I'm not gonna bother. And we're going to create a schedule to backup the database and the files. These are the most important too.

But hey, let's check on five just to make sure and we'll see that it's going to be zipped up, that's fine. And here, we want to back it up to Dropbox. Okay, they do Amazon s3 and other services. They don't do drive. That is with the premium version and this is the free version. Now we're going to shedule it how often we're going to buy up, and let's stop job with WordPress cron, and we're going to back up weekly, we can choose the day, the hour, the minutes, tomorrow's Thursday.

So let's back up tomorrow. And that'll back up every week on a Thursday, of course, and save changes moving along, there's nothing much else to do. Here, it just shows you that all the tables are going to be backed up in the database. Similarly, it shows you that all the files are going to be backed up. This tells you what the XML is, XML export is sometimes useful. It's not, as I say the most, two most important things are the files in the database.

Again, that shows you what it's calling the test file. It actually just downloads a list of the plugins you're using. And this shows you what the text file is called. Here you have an option to try and repair a defective cable. I wouldn't bother with that. And now this is the important We of course need to authenticate our Dropbox account.

So if you join Dropbox today for the first time, you'll get two gigabyte for free. There's a great opportunity to backup your WordPress website on the cloud for free using a very good service indeed. So if you haven't got a Dropbox account, you can click that, but I have one. So I'm going to click on here get Dropbox app auth code. So it's logging into my Dropbox account, so we can get authorization and it's given me a code there, and I'll paste it in there and then save changes. And there we see we are authenticated.

So I'm going to pop back in a day's time and see if that backup has worked. Okay, let's look to see if it has worked. I'm in the dashboard of back WP up now. And now I'm going to go to jobs before we went to add new job Remember, we're going to jobs Here's the job that I created. That's what we're backing up. That's the destination Dropbox.

And the next run is 30th of July. But the last run the sixth of July, has happened. It's the eighth of July now it's a couple of days late. And if I look in my Dropbox, there was a new folder in there called apps. And inside apps, we had two folders and that's because I did a test on one site. And here is the folder of the site that I set up the backup for just now on this video.

And inside that was a zip. And if you unzip the zip, if you're doing that on Windows, of course you'll have to use another program but on the merch we just double click and look in that file. You will see the backup and here immediately. You can see all The familiar WP folders and files that make up the WordPress installation site. These are all the files of this website backed up a couple of days ago. There's four other files that the plugin has added.

There's a text me file that doesn't say anything interesting. There's a plugin list. But if you were to go into content plugins, you'll see all the plugins. They're backed up, of course, but there's the plugin list if you wanted it, and as well as an XML file that we asked for. But the last thing is the most important thing, and that is the SQL database. So there it is.

It's all backed up, and there's a copy on the cloud and Dropbox and there's a copy on my computer. So if anything was to happen, anything bad to the site, not necessarily a hack, it could be somebody making a mistake and deleting a file. We've got a copy of everything. We've got that schedule to copy every week. We could do it every day. We could do it every month, depending on the space we have on our cloud server or on our computers.

I hope you enjoyed that. A great way to backup your websites on the cloud and keeping the backups away from the server that houses your website, which is what you want to do. My name is Rob coven. I'll see you in another video.
