Hello, this is Rob here. Now we all know the importance of changing your username, if it isn't hard to guess. And I've shown you a great way of doing that just by creating a new user and attributing all the content to that new user. And then deleting your old user. That is the best way to do it. This is a more lazy way to do it, and it's an easier way to do it.
So it's a plugin called username changer. We go to plugins, and we could go to add new there or add new up here. And user name, changer. There it is. It's called user name changer. It's used a lot over 10,000 times it's got over 30 good reviews, and it's been updated recently five months ago, but it is untested with this version of WordPress, but I believe this plugin is okay to use now.
So we'll install now and activate. So it's activated. But what we do now is just go into users and edit. Now usually under this username, here, it says you cannot change it in the default WordPress install. But because we have this username change plug in installed, we can just easily change it here. Let's go to our password generator.
Let's generate a password with just lower and uppercase letters and numbers, Copy that. paste it in and save username. So let's click here to log back in this is very important. So now we paste that new username in. And now I need to remember this username Of course. So I added to my method of saving usernames And I use LastPass Password Manager.
Okay, and once that's done, you've changed your username and you've saved it. Along with the hard to guess password in your password manager, I use LastPass then you can just deactivate this plugin and throw it away. Remember any plugins you don't need, deactivate and delete the plugins. So this is called username changer, we go deactivate, and deletes. Done. So that's all done now we've changed the username.
So if you have a username that is either admin or easy to guess, then I would suggest you try either of these two ways to change your username. But remember, the password is just as important. So the best way to do that is to create a new user with a hard to guess username, and an even harder, harder to guess password. And you can do Do that with a password generator. I would advise you to use a password of over 16 characters. It can be 30 if you want, and to include the symbols with your password, but not with your username.
I hope that helped. My name is Rob coven. I'll see you in another video.
