Hi, I'm Jennifer Hancock and I'm the author of the balloon vaccine and your instructor for this course ending harassment retaliation in the workplace. Now, I do take a behavioral approach to this problem, and I think it's something you'll find very useful. Most trainings on harassment in the workplace have to do with the law, it's illegal, don't do it. And if it happens reported, that's not what this course is. This course is about behavioral psychology specifically using a technique called operant conditioning to extinguish unwanted behavior. And we apply that to the problem of harassment and retaliation in the workplace.

So the topics we're going to cover in this course, there are seven video lessons. The first topic is What is harassment, we take a behavior we pay take both a legal and a behavioral approach. Then we talk about why retaliation happens from a behavioral perspective. The third unit is on the science of how we make things stop operant conditioning extinguishing behavior, and then we talked about how to actually do that using reinforcing to our reinforce schedules to our advantage and against it's kind of wonky, but I'm told I explained it quite well. The third, the fifth thing we're going to talk about is behavioral extinction. What does that look like?

Because the reason most attempts to get harassment and bullying stop, fail. And the reason retaliation happens, the way it does, is has to do with what we know about the behavioral extinction process, like what do people do when their behaviors are not being rewarded? So we're going to talk about that because you can't succeed at getting harassment to stop unless you understand that that's like the most important part. Then we're going to talk about what the technique is we're going to put this all together and say, okay, so given all the science, this is the process, and then we're going to talk about specifically what victims need to do with this information and what managers need to do with this information. Okay. Now, this course is you've got seven video lectures, you've got a copy of my lecture notes that transcript of the talks, you've got resources for additional learning in the bonus lecture section, there's a, there's a document that's got links to external sources for more information on operant, conditioning and things like that, that I talked about.

Also, in the bonus lecture section, there's a complimentary copy of my book, the bully vaccine, it's in PDF form, I do want you to download it, this is one of those things that it'll help you this was written for kids. And this book will help you translate what I just taught you for adults in the workplace. So that you can also teach it to your kids. But it also goes into a little bit more detail about the process itself. So you should find it the adults who have read it said it's extremely helpful to them as well.
