Module One, what is a consultant? And is it right for you? a consultant is someone that is paid to share their professional expertise, knowledge and skills to help businesses solve problems and achieve their goals. Businesses often hire consultants to work on specific projects to fill employee shortages. And as a way to save on hiring full time employees. consultants can provide a new and fresh perspective to businesses, as they are not absorbed in the corporate culture, and not involved or aware of the office politics.
Consultants work in a variety of fields from business to personal services. There are opportunities to consult in virtually every industry, as long as you have the expert skills and knowledge. consultants are usually self employed. And this is something that you should think about carefully, particularly as being self employed doesn't mean that you will be Once more for finding your own work, and magic managing your own taxes. So you do need to be organized and resilient. You will need to source clients manage relationships with your suppliers, your customers, your stakeholders, etc.
And of course, you can outsource elements such as your taxes by hiring an accountant, but it's super important to remember that the buck stops with you, the taxman won't come looking for your accountant, they'll come looking for you. And so with that, you know if anything goes wrong, you have to be aware of that perspective. Okay? If you miss a payment or there's a change in tax policy, which directly impacts your contributions, it is your responsibility to ensure to ensure that you do pay correctly. Now whilst becoming a consultant can be a lucrative decision. You have to remember that you may not see the big bucks rolling in immediately going from full or part time employment, where you know what you will earn each and every month to being self employed, where you do not know what you're doing.
To earn his bar each month is risky. However, I do believe it is a risk worth taking. It may feel daunting, but if you are determined to make it there is no stopping you, or the amount you could be potentially earning. My motto is always been you know, you can get a job. But if you have expressed experience in your field, and you're passionate about it, why not take advantage and take charge of your life. While it can be very scary, is a very rewarding and liberating to become a consultant.
If you have always wants to be your own boss, but have not wanted to deal with the overheads. This is a great career option. Now I decided to become a consultant because I really want to take charge of my life, what my own hours and manage my workload and my life balance a bit better. I always knew I wanted to work for myself and had research consulting. And I know that consultants work in a variety fields. So if you're an expert in your field, you too can consult.
Think about it. There are always people To learn new skills, thus providing the perfect opportunity for consultant to share advice, and therefore, there are always those who don't have the time, or knowledge or skills to do what you do as an expert on a daily basis. You can only do so much. So, really the only question which is, you know, is it right for you? is a question that only you can answer, you know, you'll know whether it's right for you or not. For me, I knew in my heart that this is something that I wanted to do, it was a risk worth, that I was willing to take, and very much wanting to take.
So for you, you need to ask yourself that question, is it something you're prepared to, you know, go out and make sure you can keep your business going. I didn't want to work in an office no longer you know, the nine to five or even longer these days, you know, working Monday to Friday, I found that personally to be quite soul destroying, you know, and I wanted to find a way that worked for me for somebody else is different. You might actually don't might not mind working nine to five a couple days. Week, you know, and that's not a dig at those who do work nine to five. It's just a case of making sure you're happy in what you do. So for me, I always say, go for what makes you happy.
If you think you've got the skills, and you can, you've got a personality as long as you remember you need to make sure you're outgoing enough to go out and source your own business, then why not consult
