Good morning, good evening, good afternoon, whatever it may be, and wherever you are in this wonderful world, I hope you're having an absolutely incredible day. Today's lesson Module Three is about master level communication. So let me get straight into it. Now I know that when you use the word assume in a sentence, it often creates difficulties. However, I'm going to take the risk of assuming that you agree that communication is a vital component of success, and a vital component of a successful enterprise. With that in mind, consider this.
Does anything happen without communication? Now, obviously, the answer is no or at the very least very little of value gets achieved without communication. Robert Bernard Shaw the Nobel Prize, and also Oscar winning Irish playwright once said, The biggest problem with community occation is the illusion that it has been achieved. And I can assure you, after running companies for more than two decades, I've seen the truth of that statement caused the unnecessary loss of incredible amounts of money, time and relationships. The illusion, assumption or belief that communication has been achieved is a serious black hole that consumes vast amounts of productivity, resources and revenue. I'm going to cover the three simple step process to master level communication in this video.
But just before we do that, we need to define operationally exactly what communication is because until we really define communication and comprehend it on a on a cellular level, it's going to be difficult to master this skill. So let me ask you, are there different other different levels of communicators? And if so, what is it that separates good communicators from the not so good? And is good communication a skill that can be learned, refined and mastered? Well, before you answer any of those, let's investigate a little. Let me ask how do you define communication?
Now, whenever asked this question in a live setting, I get no shortage of answers, an exchange of information, clear direction, instructions, interaction, engagement, discussion, agreement, a transmission of something, a whole range of responses. The dictionary defines communication as the imparting or interchange of thoughts, opinions, or information. And I'm going to share with you why that definition is so dangerous and creates so many problems in every aspect of life very, very shortly. However, the perspective on I would like you to consider begins with understanding that communication is fundamentally linked to a single concept. productivity, we communicate because we want something to happen right. And with great communication, productivity expands on all levels and with poor communication, it contracts on all levels.
It really is that simple. So with that in mind, I would like to share with you the definition of communication that is the foundation of master level communication and you I want to write this down. Communication is the response that you get. Now, I would ask you to just stop and absorb that for a moment. Communication is the response that you get or the response that I get. Now, I know that sounds incredibly simple, but the simplicity is what makes it so very, very powerful.
You will notice that there is no direct reference in that definition to information direction, exchange discussions, agreements. Yay. If you think about it, it encompasses all of those in the same thing. Look at it this way, the purpose of communication on all levels is to achieve something right? some form of productivity result or outcome. So, if you don't get the productive result you want, has your goal of communication been achieved?
No, it hasn't. And this is where it gets a bit sticky. When weight is the responsibility for for the outcome or result not being achieved? Interesting. Now, there could be a whole assortment of reasons why the outcome wasn't achieved and you can blame XYZ or you can justify that it was because of ABC whatever, however, is that below the line Activity the optimal position for velocity, velocity, I should say and forward motion. What I'm attempting to do here is readjust your perception that communication is about the delivery of knowledge or information direction, whatever, to the awareness that fundamentally, communication is the responsibility to ensure the receiving and full comprehension of that knowledge, information or direction, because that directly impacts the result that you get.
That's why in this program, my books or any content or seminars that I produce, that I go into a lot of explanation and detail, it's not because I like talking or writing a lot. It's because I understand that fundamentally, the goal of communication is the comprehension in the mind of the receiver. Not the distribution of knowledge, information or direction or direction, for the purpose of delivery alone. And it is my responsibility. To ensure that you get the comprehension embodiment and application of this principle is like putting your business on steroids. Now, as I mentioned earlier, there were there are three steps to Mastering the Art of communication that I'll cover with you shortly.
However, these three steps are useless unless you understand and embody communication from this perspective. In fact, without even knowing the three steps to communication, if you just understand and embody the definition, the way that you communicate, engage and interact will transform instantly, and you will be a better communicator than 99% of the population. Now, obviously, there is a link here with module two where we discussed living above the line taking responsibility. So let's just cover that briefly. If you communicate something to someone and they don't do what you wanted to show You can blame them for the issue or justify that the individual is maybe incompetent or whatever. But let me ask you, does that solve the problem?
Does that change the fact that what whatever didn't get done now needs to either be reworked or done again by someone else? Does it change the fact that you are frustrated and not in an optimal frame of mind for productive output? Does it change the fact that you have maybe upset a customer or impacted other parts of the product service delivery? No, it doesn't change any of that. However, if you had taken the responsibility for your communication in the first place, walk through the three steps of effective communication to ensure the the outcome was achieved efficiently and effectively. Would that have placed you in a more or less optimal position for positive forward motion and greater productivity?
This is not about right or wrong This is just about positioning yourself and your enterprise for optimal productivity. Remember, we don't want to get it right. We don't care. We certainly don't want to be right. We want to get it right, I should say. Now, let's briefly cover how they synergistically enhances your leadership skills.
Thank you. Someone who has been an incredible was had an incredible impact in your life, maybe maybe a school teacher or a coach or a mentor, someone who's had an incredible impact on you. Okay, so have you got that person? Great. Now, let me ask you, was that person fundamentally interesting? Or was that person fundamentally interested in you, if you think back, you will find that they were fundamentally interested in you.
Their focus was on your growth, your achievement, your success, and because of their interest, because of the interest, I should say that they showed in you, did you have greater confidence in that person? Did they make you feel special? Do you trust this person? Yes, you did, most likely on an extreme level. You see when you communicate sincerely from the perspective of communication is the response that you get. What you inadvertently achieve inadvertently achieve I should say, is the construction of trust by taking the time to be interested in ensuring the other party understands what you want.
Whether or not you haven't already terior motifs are getting what you want done is irrelevant, because the result is exactly the same and elevation in the fundamental element of leadership trust. In addition, your communication becomes predictable. those around you know that they can, they can trust you to explain things well to them, because you've now embodied this principle of taking responsibility for your communication. Even if those around you don't know, you have made the conscious decision to embody this principle. Your actions and behavior will end Kate will convey this with absolute clarity. Now, I hope this synergy of thought engineering is beginning to crystallize.
Please remember and keep in mind, this synergetic effect or the synergetic outcome of these individual components working together in your environment is immeasurable. You can't know or predict what the result will be. All you can know is the outcome will be greater than the combination of the value of the components individually. And when you breed communication is the response that you get. In fact, every single principal in this program into every one of your team, the synergistic impact is exponential. Now, let's get on to the three steps or rules to master level communication.
These rules apply, especially when you require a definite result from a third party, and you will definitely want to write these down. I've also created a download for you outlining these rules in case you missed any of the points now. Step one is first to ask permission so that you actually have the receivers buying, john, I just need to explain something to you about the new Mars mission project. I don't know you'd probably need more than five minutes. But anyway, I need five minutes of your time is now a good time. If john says no, then book it in for later.
Never attempt to communicate with anyone when you don't have their full attention, or they don't have yours. It's a waste of time and energy. They all you are going to miss something and all you're going to do is have to do rework or explain it again or you know, go over it and waste more time. Keep in mind that you are responsible for communication going both directions, incoming and outgoing. So many good proactively. Second is explanation.
Explain your communication in terms the receiver is most likely to understand. don't communicate the way that you want to communicate in the most optimal way to achieve the outcome you want. Remember, we don't want to be right, we want to get it right, whatever that takes. Once you've done this, ask a very specific question. Is there anything you don't understand about what needs to be done? Don't say is that cool?
Are you sweet with that? Can I leave that with you? Or good? Ask the specific question. Is there anything you don't understand about what needs to be done? If they say yes, go back to The beginning of step two explanation and explain what you need done again, if they say no, I understand it completely, then go on to Step three, which is confirmation.
Ask them to repeat what is required back to you. And unless they can communicate clearly what needs to be done. Go back to step two explanation. Now, I want to give you an example of this principle in action so you can see how incredibly powerful it is and what a phenomenal impact this can have on your business specifically. When I first moved to Asia in 1992, I was charged with the responsibility of quality quality control and product sourcing in manual Factoring logistics for a company I was working for at the time. They were experiencing or call it quality issues with some products.
And my role was to solve those issues. When I arrived and started dealing with the suppliers, it was it was incredibly difficult. Now, there was a couple of things at play here. Firstly, this was early days in the development of Asia being the manufacturing hub for the world, then the English while reasonable wasn't was far from perfect, we'll say that. Secondly, as a culture, they don't want to say no, we don't understand because this is perceived in a negative manner, and I don't wish to lose face as they call it. So often they will say that they understand when they really don't.
Now when I started working with the factories directly it it became very clear to me that the problem is my company was experiencing was not due to the lack of attempts or See desire to communicate what they wanted. And it wasn't because of the the factory workers possessed a lower level of intelligence or capacity Anyway, it was it was simply due to the fact that the individuals who'd been there before me representing the company had been communicating what they wanted using terms and descriptive manner that they understood. And they were failing to confirm that the factories truly understood what was what was actually required. Quite literally, when I made it clear that it was not bad for our factory partners to say that they did not understand in fact, quite the opposite. And I implemented a process where they had to show me not just tell me, what they understood was that we required now problems faded away.
Not only did our problems fade away, but so did the factories problems and the relationships I developed with them because I showed interest in The business is getting it right, even though there was an ulterior motive of solving our problems was simply incredible. Now, that's a very condensed version of that story. But in summary, what you need to know is this. Master Level communication is not rocket science, but it is rooted in the embodiment of the principle. Communication is the response that you get. And when you begin to live, and breathe this fundamental component of thought engineering, I guarantee you, it will catapult your productive capacity and transform every aspect of not just your business, but your entire life in the most incredible way.
But once again, tasted, measure the results and allow effectiveness to be your measure of truth. In module four, we're going to cover exactly what you're saying to the world every single moment. Every single day, even if you're not aware of it, and how this hidden barrier is holding you back from and impeding your, I should say, and your ability to develop real world abundance and freedom. So Till we meet again in the next module, please be superb. think clearly and have an absolutely incredible day
