So there you have it. sound, as we learned in chapter one, influences us profoundly noise has a devastating effect on our society and on us as individuals. And yet you can take control as far as you possibly can. And that amelioration of the context that moderation of the things that perhaps you weren't conscious of before can have a powerful effect on how well you're received? And indeed, how will you receive other people? So we've looked at the circle, speaking and listening, influencing one another all the time, the way I speak, affecting the way you listen the way you listen, affecting the way I speak.
We've looked at the power of speaking, how it can change your life, your outcomes, society in general. Remember, a great orator can move entire communities, countries, even the world. We've looked at the listening, and why listening itself is so important, how listening can be an incredibly important part of any conversation. If you don't listen, then it's very difficult to speak accurately to somebody that you don't understand. we've uncovered the difference between content and delivery. And we've discovered that actually content has to come first.
If you have nothing to say, then be as brilliant as you like in your delivery. Nobody's going to listen very much. And as Chris said, it's just irritating to have somebody who is delivering brilliantly absolute nonsense. And we've uncovered a really important distinction just started on this one which we will explore in more detail later on in the course speaking into you always speak into listening. That is such a powerful revelation, and it will transform your speaking so do remember, I Ask yourself all the time, what's the listening? I'm speaking into?
What's the listening just by asking it, you'll get better and better at understanding it. empathically no more needs to be said for now. We've looked at context and in particular, the negative context of noise which surrounds us all the time. Again, we will go into some more tools and techniques later on in the course. For now, the crucial thing is to become conscious of context. And consider it when you're planning any communication.
How can I improve the context? And do do that exercise please, of going around your house and listening to every room? Think about it at work as well. always asking yourself, can I improve this? Can I move myself better, to a better place for whatever it is, I want to communicate? context is key.
And if you listen carefully, you can take responsibility for the sound that you consume. It's not a given you can change it, you can move, you can do things about it. And that will have a major effect on your health, your effectiveness, your well being and your happiness indeed, and most important of all, ask yourself, what's the listening I hope you've enjoyed chapter two. I look forward to joining you for chapter three.
