Welcome to Chapter Two, Section two, trading to never quite sure what to call these chunks of content. This is going to be where we look at the circle of speaking and listening the way those two things interrelate and why it is actually, that we have to consider listening in a course that's really about speaking, the two are intimately connected. We're also going to look at the power of speaking and the power of listening, why these things matter in our lives, and how it is that they affect our happiness, effectiveness and well being. I said, also that we deal with the age old conundrum, which is more important content or delivery, it is what you say, or is it the way that you say it? Well, you'll discover the answer to that one from one of the greatest But in the world, Chris Anderson, the head of Ted, and he's going to give you, I think, an absolutely accurate answer to that intriguing question, we're going to look at a transformational realization.
I call it speaking into speaking into. And I think once you grasp this, and you start a simple practice that I'm going to give you, you will discover that your speaking becomes infinitely more powerful. Immediately, we're going to look at the other crucial aspect of speaking and listening, which is where they happen. The context. Context is king in many cases. Unfortunately, very often contents context works against us.
So we have to be conscious of it. We can change it, we can move ourselves, or we can accept it and work with it. The crucial thing as always, is to be conscious about it. Throughout this section of the course, there are some exercises which you'll find in the associated materials, I do urge you to do them. There are some very powerful exercises about your own implementation of these tools and techniques. And it will help you enormously to do the exercises as you work through the material.
We finished this section, looking at the big subject of noise and how it affects our society, how it affects you how to fix me, and what we can do about it. So without further ado, let's have a look at the circle of speaking and listening.
