So that's the power of sound, for ways in which it affects you every day, affects me every day affects all of us. And it's so powerful, it's really important to understand it so you can use it to your advantage. It's also important to understand that that is true. Also, this sound, the human voice, probably the most powerful sound on the planet, and one which we're going to be exploring in great depth in this course. So that's chapter one. We've introduced ourselves, we've set some intentions and I do recommend you keep those intentions with you throughout the course because they will help you to get the most out of the course for whatever it is that you specifically need to get out of it.
I've talked about the structure of the course the nine chapters, which will take you all the way through from where you are now to being really an excellent public speaker on any stage. We've looked also at the patient And the prize in this chapter we've looked at what are the downsides of not being able to communicate effectively, the isolation, the disconnection, the loneliness, possibly the frustration, the stress, all of these things, which come about through not being fully expressed through not being heard. We've looked at the prize as well, which is your happiness, your effectiveness, and your well being. Being a fully expressed, powerful speaker and a good listener will make you happier, it will make you more effective, and it will enhance your well being as well. We've looked at the power of sound, the effects of sound on you conscious a conscious use of that, to understand the physiological, psychological, cognitive and behavioral effects of sound on you, so that you can start to turn it as I say to your advantage and use it well.
And like so many people who are simply unconscious of it. Actually, if I were to give you one takeaway from this chapter one, I would say that word is the most important one of all consciousness, becoming conscious of speaking skills and of the factory. These are skill, becoming conscious of listening and the fact that that too, is a skill becoming conscious of your relationship with sound. This is a doorway through that doorway is a whole new world of relating to what's going on around you of connecting with people. Without consciousness, that doorway is closed. And like so many people, it's a world of limited appreciation of so much that's around us, and the world of limited connection with other people, which is ultimately a very frustrating way to live.
That doorway is opening for you right now. And I do encourage you to become more and more conscious as we go through the course. Chapter Two, we'll be looking at listening and speaking in a lot more detail. And in particular, the circular relationship between them why it is that I keep banging on about listening in a course about speaking. Why is it that listening is so important? So the circle, the power of each of those two things, two things, the balance between content and delivery in speaking now, Which do you think is most important?
You'll find out in chapter two
