Hello and welcome back. So we'll be organizing the the floor plan or the base plan from the air balloon perspective. And by doing this, we get in all of our form composition, our design approach all of this just by seeing how it relates to each other. But now we're going to give it more interest in that garden is not just a 2d flat plan, and that's where the other two plane enclosures come in the vertical and the overhead plane. The vertical plane can be any sort of vertical element, a seating wall, which also gives me purpose. It gives me a place to sit it creates a subspace for the garden and for interest and it also navigates people where I want them to go.
It can also be a pergola, Arbor or reinforced retaining wall It can be used to enhance pleasurable views, but also screen out views that are not so nice. It can also be hedging. I like to use bamboo because you can see through it but you can't actually get to what you see just by standing where you are without necessarily going through the garden and exploring. So it adds a sense of anticipation to your design. When you have a vertical plane that has an amount of transparency to it. It gives you the feeling of Oh, there is something that I want to see.
So it takes me on the path throughout the garden and I can see a water feature or a nice planting on the way so you just get to explore the garden and other vertical planes are going to be most more solid to give more privacy to the space. And finally we come to the overhead plane where We talk about anything that gives a sense of a ceiling. It can be an open Arbor with vines growing on it, or also a canopy of tree. So use these examples as a sense of an enclosure, and also thing how they can add an interest to your design and how you can guide people on a very you want them to go. garden design is much of a psychological approach as it is an aesthetic and physical pursuit. And also research on how other designers and architects use these three types of enclosure to navigate the space.
Okay, that's all for this lecture. And I guess I'll see you in the next one. Bye.
