Hey guys, welcome back and we're gonna be talking about getting ideas. Now, a lot of people ask writers, hey, where do you get your ideas? Now, writers don't have a hidden power where they get entire scripts popping into reality and smacking us in the face. I mean, that'd be great if that was true. screenwriting is about his imagination, taking facts, feelings, ideas, and information so that you can play with them to see what story can come out of it. Now, I can't teach you to be imaginative, but you can learn how to stockpile ideas and other things so that you can become more imagine.
We get ideas by living and observing like everyone else. I think writers tend to be more curious and observe. The good thing is that you can train yourself to be more of the same way. When you're out at work, or at home. Observe and take notes, mental notes on paper, right? Your phone, make sure that you read because reading is a huge source of ideas, it feeds your mind.
Reading about human psychology is vital to knowing how people act, and why they will help it creating interesting character, other sources of ideas or reading about and meeting people with interesting job. Like I said, reading a wide variety of things will feed your mind and allow for dots of information to be connected in interesting ways. Now, personally, I keep an imagination file on my computer. It's full of ideas, images and situations that pop into my head. I don't catch those ideas and write them down. They'll fade away.
And I'll be left with this memory of well of letting a good idea slip away. I also keep a dream journal. I'm a vivid dreamer, and usually have pretty good recall of my dreams, that if I wait too long, it's gone. So I write them down. I write down the imagery, the people that they did what I did, I also write down what my senses detected those dreams. What did I touch?
What did I smell? What did I taste? What were the sounds was there music. I also keep a journal and keep track of what I'm going through my real life struggles in my job. All that is we put thought into for creativity. I also never underestimate the power of daydreaming and reporting.
The brain seems more open to ideas when it's in a daydreaming mode. Another interesting mental state is the womb right before you fall asleep or wake up. Many times I've had striking and unusual things pop into my mind. And I'm aware I'm really sleepy and about the novel. In summary, wherever you can get your ideas is helpful. Even down is useful in playing with these ideas is key to generating characters.
