So let's say you've finished your script, you've got that first draft, and you want to have somebody read it, try to find people that you know, you know, their friends, but the type of friends that will just tell it to you straight. If you have family members read your stuff might be that they love you so much that they're afraid to say something that needs to be said. So, give it to them so they can read it anyway. But just bear in mind that you might be sure sugarcoating some things that really, you need to be looking at more diligence, to find readers that definitely are going to shoot it to you straight, they're gonna be really honest. They're not trying to hurt your feelings, and offer you what's called constructive criticism. Your job is to have the fortitude to actually seek out criticism, because you want to be fooling yourself thinking, Oh, well, I've written something Amazing, and I'm ready to send it out.
When baby's got things that needs to be addressed, we all have blind spots, and blind spots are there because we just can't tell them that they're there. We don't know that there but other people can see. So definitely constructive criticism is a way for you to get better, faster. In the film industry, there are these things called notes. And a lot of screenwriters get perturbed about getting notes from people involved in film, because, hey, they're not writers. So what do they know?
I'm the one writing this thing. I'm doing the work. But it actually notes a very important thing about notes is that definitely read them. You don't have to really change anything based upon the suggestion if you do need to look closely at what caused that person To have to write a note in the first place could be something that was confusing, something vague. And that's something definitely worth looking at. So you do get notes, the very gracious, very polite and be very open because making films is a very collective, team oriented endeavor.
And if they're writing notes, basically means that they read your script. They care enough to let you know that something needs to be addressed. So take it with good, my gratitude. Swallow your pride. You might learn something new
