Hello guys and welcome back. In this video, I will guide you through four strategies which will help you get good grades in university. That is with minimum effort possible. Unfortunately, no matter how much you know about your subject, the success as a student is judged by the grades you get. The grades you get are mostly dependent on two aspects. Number one is assignments and number two is exams.
Today I will help you set up your university life so as to you have processes in place, which will help you get amazing grades, and also make lots of friends while doing it in the minimum effort possible. Number one choosing the right professor in the class. The first and foremost thing you should be doing in order to get good grades is choosing the right classes. And I understand that sometimes you have mandatory classes and it is not possible to do that all the time. But when you're choosing these classes, it is very important that you choose to your strengths. I would suggest that if you're planning to take a certain class in the next semester, you Go to that class in this semester itself, at least one or two lectures, look at the professor, see if you like him or her.
And then also look at what kind of content he or she puts out. You can talk to the people around you and get a good gauge of how the professor is, is it the right kind of class for you and is the teaching style appropriate for your interest. The key mantra here is be picky about choosing the classes and choose well to your strengths. And with a good professor who has a good background. You can use resources like rate my prof calm, which has a very good gauge of how good the professor is, and there are some reviews from previous students as well. Number two is attend all the classes.
Yeah, this might be like yeah, okay, Ashwin, this is no rocket science. I understand. It's not rocket science, but there are two reasons, which you probably wouldn't have thought of. Number one is you have a good idea of how the prof teaches and To what he or she is excited about. And usually those are the things which he or she will ask in an exam, it is important to go to the class not just because of the learning that will happen, but also because you will get a good idea of how the professor things, and if you know how he or she thinks, you can actually manage your answers in your exams accordingly. The second important thing you can do from here is form a peer group, you have an idea of who are the smart kids in the class, can they help you and you can form a group of people three or four people from the same class, which will make your assignments a lot easier.
And I will elaborate that right now in the next point. The third point is forming study groups. Now why should you form study groups? Because it's easy to learn from someone who has read the book and solve some problems than to do it yourself. As an example one of my toughest physics class in my bachelor's, we used to have weekly assignments which used to have on an average five questions or five problems to solve. Were a group of five people and we would solve each and every question.
But every person would do only one question. We would come together, grab a pizza, and discuss all the problems and solve them for each other. Please note that we didn't just copy our answers, we were actually doing them. Because it's the best of both worlds. You get to be lazy and knowledgeable at the same time, you can apply the same strategy for assignments for papers. If you have some massive amounts of pages to read, you can distribute it in your friends and just discuss about it which in my opinion, is a better way to learn than just reading and maybe you won't really absorb everything.
My last tip would be how to hack your professor. Now this is a fun one. Let's say you get an unsatisfactory grade in your exam. What you do is you go to your professor The next day, prepare two hours worth of questions. Make sure your questions contain the following things number one, what is missing from this particular answer number two, what is the expected unser to get a perfect grade. This achieves two things.
Number one, you get a good idea again of how your professor wants you to write, it's more about how to write the exam. And the things you know, as I mentioned earlier, and the second thing is that your professor is dreading every time they are giving you a bad grade, because if he or she gives you a bad grade, then you are you are giving them a two hour visit next day to be a massive pain in their ass. So this is my strategy to hack your professor, I promise if you just practice this one tape, you will manage to improve your grade by at least 10%. And that's it for the strategies to improve in your grade. Please try them out and post them in the discussion below. Because I'm really curious as to how it will work for you guys.
And maybe if you have any other suggestions, you can post them in the forum as well, which will help your peers and other students who are taking this class. Thank you and I will see you next time.
