Really cool technique when editing music videos is using both the instrumental version of the song and the version with vocals. A lot of stock music sites provide both. And as you saw in a previous lecture, when we went to audio socket, I downloaded both the instrumental version and the real version of the song. And they are here, one of them was instrumental. And this allows us to do some really cool things. So first, we'll bring on the instrumental track.

And right under it, I'm going to bring on the full track and I'm going to label this a different color so we can see the difference. And since we're not working with video right now, I'm the full screen this for you guys. So theoretically, we should have the instrumental here. And the full version here. Let's see what happens when we play both together. Alright, so it's not quite lined up.

And that's pretty common for any site you download from, they usually aren't. And this isn't just the sites This is when the musicians themselves are providing songs to the sides, there's usually a tiny, tiny bit of difference because they're exploiting the songs differently. So zoom all the way in here. And let's slide this down. Kind of like when we sync dialogue, we're gonna line these up as close as we can get it. Now that often don't line up all the way.

So this looks a little closer than that. Also, if you want to slide by one frame at a time, this is one of my favorite shortcuts. It's alt Common to go left are all in period to go right. And they just nudges everything. So it's still not right on, right like perfectly lines up. And if we wanted to, we could go up here and show audio time units.

And you see how it changed up here. We'll check out the numbers up here. Turn audio time units off. It gets much you can get much more exact. So turn that on, really zoom in and pick a peak enough to put my playhead at this peak right here. And now I can slide I have more control.

Just a note though, when you're doing audio, that's called audio time units. When that's used, they'll sync up now but anytime, so we go like this and then we wanted to bring it back. It's going to be off again because that's just how premiere is not that great at getting into the tiniest audio details like the audio programs are because it works in a frame, frame base. But all that said, get it as close as you can and will be able to deal with it how it is, and no one will ever notice. So play it playing it here. It's synchronized.

So we're just hearing this because I muted the trop track and we hear that their vocals So now we have a ton of creative options to play with. Let's say I want the intro to come in and vocals, but once the beat hits, I don't want any vocals I just want the beat. Here's how we would do that. So this is the intro with music. So I'm gonna go ahead and solo this, so we're just listening to this track. So I'm gonna go to the very beginning, and I'm gonna hit C, and I'm gonna cut it.

Now I'm also going to cut it on the instrumental track. So that's cut the same spot on the take unmuted or unsolo and I want to disable this track. This beginning clip You can right click and hit uncheck enable you see how it goes dim. Also, I use shortcuts on a Mac, its Command Shift E. And on Windows would be just Shift E. So I'm hit Command Shift E over here. So what we've done is we have the intro with vocals and then once it hits the beat there's no more vocals. Perfect.

Now let's say you were wanting to add, let's say your videos ending about right here and you want to start cutting the vocals back in for a big finish, do another cut. And again you want to be usually you want to be do it on the first beat of measure, just to avoid any, like getting the vocals halfway through a sentence, but I didn't even check here. So exactly, I got it and halfway through a sentence, so I will stop doing shortcuts and show you the right way to do it. So I will temporarily turn this back on and solo this I'm just hearing the vocal. Maybe I want to cut in where it says don't revolve around you. That's like right here.

Little farther. Okay, so I'll make the cut at the same spot and the instrumental. And remember we had wanted this to be off so do Command Shift E, or shift if you're on Windows, and also, you can right click and hit enable So now let's see what happens. Cool. And you'll want to finesse a little bit sometimes when you're not cutting right on the beat. You can hear it sometimes you can hear the beat Come on, so maybe started a little earlier and do a tiny bit of crossfade.

That's a little better. If you didn't want those vocals, you can start to get the idea. You can if you highlight both and turn both, if you toggle they're enabled, it'll just switch it so whatever was disabled will become enabled and whatever was enabled will become disabled. That's about it for putting an instrumental with the real vocal version. Knowing how to do it gives you a ton of options to play with. And it can really impress clients when you somehow magically are wrapping these amazing singing vocals around the dialogue or the voiceover of your edit.
