Hi, and welcome to the course super stoked to have you. My name is Jason and I can't wait to dive in about all the cool things you can do with audio and sound. in Premiere for your videos, I started as a musician, and I started making my own music. And that kind of led me fluidly into video editing. But what stuck with me was the power of music and the power of sound in shaping the viewers emotion. Feel the message the story is so important and so helpful to know how and when to use sound to achieve what you want to achieve.
And you don't have to be a musician. Most editors I've worked with actually are musicians and that background, helps them with their rhythm and then timing. We'll go over some ways that even if you don't know anything about music, you can Fool everybody. If any of you went to film school, I'm sure you've heard that sound is 50% of the entire experience, you can get the video. But without the good sound. This goes for recording in the field capturing things cleanly.
Without good sound. There's a lot that's left to be desired. One of my favorite reasons for emphasizing sound and video creation is especially for editors is a lot of time you're not shooting your own content, you have no control over what comes in. Many editors will just get an SD card or drive, plug it in, and that's what they have to work with. Sure you can color correct and stabilize, you can do all these things. But think about the full world of sound that's open for you.
You can chase your projects and your edit and put your own personal touch to at least 50% of the overall experience and that's huge. So just as a little kind of fun thing to play around with. This is a nice slow motion. clip of water. And I've got three different music tracks here and we'll just take a look at what you feel and what it means to you. And this is this is nothing, this is not a story.
It's not an edit. It's one clip of water. And it's gonna feel different and mean different things, just with different music, check it out. So there's some tension, there's some calming, it's a bit serene, you want to know what's next. So that's one track, check out the next Much more powerful the tempo is up. And as an editor, I already see that I can already tell just by the music if we're using this middle track here, right here, when it starts kicking in with the beat, I already know I need to cut.
It's so important to know and let the music dictate how a piece should be edited. If we had like three or four cuts, maybe this is a surfing video, we would let the water ride, build, build, build, then surfer, shot, crash wave, whatever. So let's just check out the third This one's a bit grungier a bit darker, you feel the dark tones of the chords and the music. And so what that means to me is maybe I wouldn't color correct this as a nice bright sunny beach day, maybe we make it a bit overcast and a bit darker and whatever the story needs to be. And there's some cool elements not music to cut to you already. Check it out.
That little, that little beep cutting there, most editors would earn most viewers, sorry, not others, most viewers would expect the cut to be right there on the next chord. But if you cut on that beep, you'll surprise viewers but it'll still be in rhythm. So that's just a super quick preview of what just different music choices can do. And we're going to get into So many different things with sound and I'm excited. Glad to have you and I'll see you in the next lecture.
