Okay, today we're going to talk about micro shots and where to actually swing the golf club through the impact area. lot of players they use a 60 degree or all the way down to a 50 degree to get these shots out of the sand and basically you can get it out with any club even an eight iron as long as you know how to attack the sand. So today we're going to be talking about how to swing the club on the inside through the shot and in the videos that we'll see here soon you'll see where the club is going to be coming from the inside towards the target. And I'll talk more about that as we go on. So look forward to showing you more this good stuff and let's get on to the next topic. Next part we're going to talk about our setup.
So when you go into a bunker you can stand straight on With your feet pointing towards the target, you can stand open. That's what your feet now going to the left to the target or you could stand closed. So there's three different ways that you can attack this job. If you stand straight on, you will catch some dirt. If you stand open, you'll catch less dirt. And if you stand close, you'll catch the most dirt, very steep.
Square you get little steepness. And if you stand open you can actually see where the club wants to come back. And that's why they call it more of a shallow with that. The other thing is do you dig in or not? It's strictly up to you. I usually stand in this position.
Some people do it again with their feet. until they're down below the ball. So that's a technique you can use. You can dig in on one side, to keep that foot high. Dig this one down. I say that helps you dig straight down.
If you don't want to dig in, but you're hitting the ball too cleanly. Another way this would be your normal setup, you would go wider and that puts you down below the ball. So again, recap. You can stand square, you can stand open, or you can stand closed. So, all three of these setups work in bunker shots. Okay, so what we're going to talk about is the two different types of divots.
One is more of a splashing effect which will spray when it makes contact. It will spray and We're going to use another type of kit that will cut clean. So when we're spraying or in a bunker that's really soft. We're going to set up with the clubface more open and when we're in a bunker that's firm with or not much say in there. We're going to set up square. So let's do a open face to face and see what happens.
All you do is set up open. You can see right away how the divot is kind of wider, spread apart to another one where we've got the clubface square automatically see the difference in the two divots. One is a much sharper, cleaner look. The other one's more of a spray. This will be for really soft sand. not found in the south and Australia but more further north can also find it in the States.
He We're kind of used to this and Victoria. The sand is firmer or not as deep. And again, that's where the square face so when you're hitting the shot, clock face will be straight on. And when you're hitting this one you open the clubface regrip and leave it open through the shot. Okay, let's get into the backswing. When you're in a bunker Greenside bunker, it's real important that you make a long enough backswing to actually get the ball out of the sand.
One of the biggest mistakes is swinging too short, and I'm going to tell you right away, that just doesn't work. I know it seems like it's if you go any longer than that the ball is going to go too far. As long as we keep our swing Nice slow motion, you'll actually see the ball pop up and land softly onto the green. So when you're doing this, take a look and see where you're swinging the club in your practice swings. And what you'll find out is you probably been going too short. So make an effort to get your hands to about chest high with the handle or your hands.
You can also go as high as shoulder height, depending on how big you want to take this or how high you want to go. So this will definitely make the ball go a lot higher, where chest I will bring it out to medium pipe. So again, this is kind of what it looked like louses to drop right into the dirt and as you can see the dirt instantly sprayed up into the air. Whereas if I go too short, the sand comes out very low and that's exactly what the ball does. So easiest way to recap this is swing the chest high or swing shoulder height and that should get the ball nice and high up out of the bunker. Okay, this is where we're going to talk about how to hit through the shop.
And as I talked about, we want to be a little bit more on the inside. When we hit this shot, we want to be attacking and we put a ball there and kind of see what happens with the first swing. You can see where my divot started from the inside. What's common out there is a lot of people will set up, use that line and they'll swing from that direction. And what that does, it doesn't allow the ball to shoot up into the air. So again, you want to practice this drawing a line out.
Work on swinging From the inside, just start looking to see what the ball does in the air. Get your straight line, do a bunch of practice swings on the inside. help you get higher there. Okay, this shot we're going to work on trouble lies. So in this particular shot, we're going to talk about how to cut through the dirt. Now this ball sitting pretty good, so that's just a normal club face.
You don't need to open it you can be square, but let's say the ball sitting down a little bit. So now we need the club to be able to dig through the dirt and we know the square face will take But another way that makes a dig even more is setting the club closed. So in this case, you will regrip the club so it stays in this position. So when it does enter the dirt, it's come in with the toe first. And what that does it digs even deeper underneath the ball and allows me to get up out of the bunker. So what I'll do is I'll take a little practice swing so you can see what that looks like.
Closed you can see how deep that is. Look how far down that went. So it's going to cover that back up. So you can see how it gets the ball out. And we'll get that press it down. That's not too bad Nicole that a buried lie.
That just jumps right out so when you close it. club face is able to plow through the dirt and that's what since the ball up into the air if you get a situation Where it's completely covered. You can't even see it. It's the same scenario just closed. clubface comes right out. This is great way to dig it.
Keeping the club closed. Thanks to the shot now standing with your feet you can stand square just like we talked about before. You can see my feet I stand a little bit straight on. If I want to dig deeper, I just close off this thing and but in this situation you wouldn't open so you don't want your feet aiming to the left. So square on closed clubface. Make sure you swing to about chest high in your backswing and it should take the all right out.
All right
