Public speaking is the number one fear most human beings have. Or it's the most common fear of commonly associated unpleasant things you have to do. In a typical work day, you're not typically asked to jump out of a plane with snakes attacking you without a parachute. But you might be asked to speak in public. Well, why am I mentioning that here in a media training course, because when you speak to the media, it is a type of public speaking, the public can see you and you can see them and they might see you 510 years later, online. So if you're nervous at all about speaking to the media, it means you're completely normal.
I understand. I get it. That's why you're here. And so part of the challenge is to get over this fear and then over the fact that it doesn't feel comfortable, to get to the point where you actually feel like you're great at this and you're helping yourself. You're helping your career. You're helping your business your cause, every time you speak.
The main way of doing this is to simply do it more often say yes to every media interview opportunity. So many people will have time for everything else they'll work late in the office will be extraordinarily creative in coming up with excuses as to why they can't do this interview today or tomorrow or next week, it really comes down to insecurity. And that's okay, it's rational to be insecure if you haven't been trained. So that's what we're going to continue doing in this course giving you the tools, tricks, tips, you need to get better so you don't have this fear. You don't have this anxiety. But one big thing I'd like to leave with you before we really hop in proper is just say yes, to every opportunity you have to speak to the media, and that includes your own social media.
Media, you have an opportunity to speak today, if not to millions, if not hundreds of thousands, at least hundreds or dozens of people who follow you on Facebook, possibly YouTube, other social media, your website, your blog. There's nothing stopping you from speaking, the more you speak out, especially on video, the more confidence you gain, the more comfortable you get. How do I know this? Well, I practice what I preach. I take more than 10,000 videos on media training and public speaking. And I'm not doing this just to hear myself talking.
I am doing it to improve but also to help you. And as a reminder, any question you have on any aspect of media training, I'm going to answer for you now there's no more room in this course to put it on as an additional lecture, but there is a companion YouTube channel for this course. And every single question you have if I don't already have a video answered for it within the course, I'll create a new video and respond to you directly. This way I'm being more responsive. I'm also selfishly building my own skills getting more comfortable, but I'm hoping to demonstrate for you best practices and to show you how easy it is. At some level, all it is is hitting record and talking not that hard.
