Your attitude towards public speaking really does have a profound effect. So, here's one tip for you. Stop telling yourself Oh, I have a fear of public speaking. I have a speaking phobia. I hate speaking I'm not good at speech. Just stop it already.

Stop with a pity party. Okay. Speaking is one of the few things in this world that is an important skill that anyone can do not everyone can be a scratch golfer. Not everyone can dunk a basketball Not everyone can be a world class violinist or ice skater. But if you have the ability to have even one conversation, that's coherent with one friend, you already have all the skills you need to be not just an acceptable or okay public speaker, but a great public speaker. But your attitude does have an impact.

Now, there have been numerous studies people who tell themselves constantly they're awful at math actually get worse at math. But there are plenty of things In life, we're simply saying, Oh, I'm great at this, I'm wonderful. It doesn't really help you. And I can go out on the golf course today. And I can say, Well, I'm going to be better than Tiger Woods, I'm going to get hold in one after holding, I can have a great attitude. We'll get out on that course.

And I'm going to be hitting in the sand trap in the lake in the woods, I'm going to shoot 180 and that's cheating. So there are plenty of things in life or simply having a good attitude doesn't help. public speaking is different. public speaking is one of the few things in life for simply telling yourself, hey, I like this. I'm good at this. It helps.

There's a crowd psychology that goes on. One of the things that is remarkably true of all great speakers. I don't care if you like their politics, what they stand for their personality, but when you see them speak, they exude the sense that they're having a great time. I couldn't imagine this going any better. Whether you love Reagan, whether you like Bill Clinton Speaking the thing that they both and fair minded people would say they're both great speakers. The one thing they have in common is, you get the sense that they're having fun with this, that they like this and that they're good at it and that they know they're good at it.

So it's not just as simple as fake it till you make it. But if you have a smile on your face and you exude this sense of I like speaking, I like the fact that I'm in front of you people here today, getting to share with you the good things I'm doing and my organization is doing. That rubs off in a very positive way people will perceive you as very confident and it'll just make the process fun for you. And it's very, very difficult to get nervous or fearful of things that are fun for you and that you're good at
