I hope you've taken away something from this public speaking course on how to reduce your fears and anxieties. I want to leave you with just a few basic things I want you to focus on For starters, have some actual goals for yourself as a speaker. As far as how often you want to speak, where you want to speak, that will really help you get better and better and the better you get at something, the harder it is to be fearful. So try to find some places to speak and it can be non threatening. Toastmasters is a great place to practice because you're in front of other people. They're not actual clients, customers, colleagues, bosses.
It's a great way to practice. But I do fundamentally believe that you and anyone else can be a good public speaker, even a great public speaker, if you want to it requires absolutely no genetic talents are inborn talents, it's something that anyone can learn how to do. You may have heard of the real estate mogul Barbara Corcoran. She now speaks all over the country at large keynote speaking fees. She's on the TV show Shark Tank, she essentially makes her living these days speaking. But very earlier in her career, she was asked to speak at a real estate convention.
She stood up in front of 1000 people. She froze. She panicked, nothing came out. She ran off the stage. And now look at her, she sold her company made a huge, huge fortune. And now she speaks all over the world promoting books giving speeches appearing on TV, and she did about as poorly as you can do for a speech, freezing, panicking running out, you really can't get much lower than that.
And now look, I don't care how bad you think you are. How fearful you think you are. You can overcome it. You're not going to joke and vanish and run away. You can be like Barbara Corcoran, you can choke. But then you can come back and get better and better and better.
The final thing I want to leave you with is you're gonna ignore most of what I say if I do get ignore everything I say if you just follow this one tip, practice your speeches, practice your presentations on this on your cell phone, on any video camera and tell you like it. If you do that, I absolutely guarantee you, your fears of public speaking will be eliminated. Good luck.
