For all you sunset lovers out there I have a beautiful Hi, I'm James Corwin. Thanks for joining me. I'm going to break down this painting step by step for you. I'm going to demonstrate here on the canvas and then give you an opportunity to complete each step. When prompted, pause the video, complete the step. And when you're ready to move on, press play.

Alright, let's get started. To start Goonies, my point brush, I'm just gonna mark out my horizon line and large shapes that I'll need to paint. So I'm gonna start with my ultramarine blue and get it wet with my water just to increase the flow. Just gonna cut my canvas in half here marking out my horizon line. So everything below this will be water. I'm gonna cut out where my waves meet the sand.

So starting from this corner, it's gonna take it down my canvas just add a gradual slope. There's a little darker bit of sand over here in the corner that I want to mark out as well. Just marking it out that way. These are just some simple lines that we're going to put in, just to delineate where Oceanus, beach, and shadow. So go ahead now and just put in these three lines and if you need to mark out which each shape is just so you remember, can do that, but we're gonna start painting in the sky. Next Okay, great.

Let's go ahead and paint in the sky. putting our first layers of color down. Go ahead and pick up your medium sized brush. We're going to take our yellow and just above the horizon line and begin to paint in a strip of yellow. also gonna take just a little bit of this yellow. I'm going to go straight down the center of my canvas where the sun reflects on the water and on the beach just like that.

Now taking this color, add just a little bit of red to it. To make a yellow orange add a faint strip of this color above my name I'm also going to take this color right here, above my blue line. We've been taking some of this color right over my blue line on the side as well. gonna paint this color here on either side of my yellow breaking up this line down here now Just to pick up some of the ripples in the sand and also some ripples in the water. These colors go on transparent so don't worry if you can still see some of your lettering or lines underneath. We'll be adding more color over it.

It's important that we get some of our brightest colors down first, because you can see how it's transparent if we had any other color underneath the yellow that would show through or underneath the oranges. So getting down these bright colors first is most important. And as it dries, you can add more layers of color over the top. Rinse off your brush. When you're done with this step. We'll move on to the next.

So pause the video now, complete putting in these colors and press play when you're ready to move on. Okay, great. Let's move on to the next step. Pick up your big brush. We're going to paint our blue up into the sky. So take your brilliant blue and mix it with some white.

You won't need too much of this blue is a very strong color. So just a little bit is all you need to tint your color or tincher white starting at the top, my canvas and working down but as I work down, I'm going to add more white to the color Claiming them very gradually and to each other. Just stopping right above the corner. Orange. I'm going to take this color, PC my brush, just slightly brush the line between the two. Just to soften the transition between the colors.

We're gonna let that dry. And then we're going to fill in these spaces with color to complete this step now Okay, go ahead and clean off your big brush. We're gonna make some new colors. Taking my ultramarine blue, mix it with a little bit of white and a little bit of black. Again, the ultramarine blue, the little white, little bit of black paint color into the ocean now Yes, this painting merge or this color merges into my orange. Just gonna bring it in and not over the colors I've already painted Very nice to add very similar color.

I'm going to add some more black, a little bit of the brilliant blue paint this color into our sand Starting over here on this edge. Now this color may seem a little dark, but we're going to be working dark to light. So I'm getting in the darkest parts of my sand right now. I'm just gonna finish up that spot because I'm gonna lighten up this color slightly by adding some more white. I'm just lightly brushing this color over my gray. The reason I'm doing that to begin to create a Cian They're reflected water on the sand.

I'm just working this lighter gray into my reflected light and even lighter down the side of the beach Okay, pause the video now and fill in these colors and then we'll move on to the next step. Let's clean up our big brush and fill in the last bit of our sand. Take black now. Just a little bit of red. A little bit of my brilliant blue. Give me some more red in there.

Get in nice deep purple. Just gonna fill in all this space here. This color some of this colors, the sucked out and pulled into our to our beach here. I'm just gonna paint in those. All my colors still wet. I'm just following my horizon line here.

Great. complete this step now and then give yourself A little time to let your paint dry. We've just blocked in the initial colors of her painting. Next we'll start to add in some clouds in some detail. Brilliant. Let's go ahead and paint in some clouds.

Now, pick up your medium sized brush, and we're going to use the ultramarine blue to start up here in the corner. We're going to begin to pull in some blue clouds. Just a few of them up here in the corner or blue with this color. Now I'm going to take my blue. I'm gonna bring just a little bit of red into it, a little bit of white to lighten it up for a great purple stripe, painting these clouds up here now. I'm gonna want to also map out where I want the rest of my clouds to go.

So, I'm gonna start with some clouds here. I'm going to be going horizontally, crossed. In a lift, right up in here and up in here, just like this, just gentle marks just like that. Just so I know the direction to take my brushstrokes can see I'm leaving some of this blue sky showing in between my clouds. You're welcome to put in as many clouds or as little as five to see you'd like. So I have very little paint on my brush right now.

And that helps me achieve this light airy effect with the clouds. I have too much paint on the brush, stroke just get globbed and smeared around. Making these things streaks of clouds you need to watch this step a couple of times. You can see the direction I'm taking my brushes and the nice fluid strokes that I'm making. create these fluffy, airy clouds. A couple of these clouds are gonna dip down here into my orange I'm leaving this space up here empty because I'm going to be adding another color of cloud up in there.

And then just a little bit of this color that's white to it, just to lighten it up here on the horizon. Beautiful. Okay, so go ahead now and complete this step. Have fun playing around with your clouds. You're obviously Welcome to create any type of cloud you'd like using these colors. When you're finished, just press play again and move on to the next step.

Okay, great. Go ahead and pick up your small pointy brush. We're gonna pull out some of our rolling waves using black, just a little bit of our brilliant blue. mixing those two colors together. Come here where the ocean meets the street. Just do a thin, dark line all the way across getting thinner as they move towards the horizon add a little bit of ultramarine blue to that color as well.

Take it here into the ocean, mark out a wave here. This is gonna follow my horizon line Not gonna take this color from my orange just come on to the other side with it. It just kind of fades into the distance there and another rolling wave coming in here same thing coming off the other side and disappearing. Add another wave. The lines get closer together as we move towards the horizon line This one might be a little thicker here for finger wave. One more.

There. We have some gentle waves starting to roll into our beach. Make these lines now extend these colors and I'll meet you in the next step. Okay, go ahead and pick up your medium size. brush and I'm gonna make a new color here with my red and some white. To make a pink, I'm going to add just a little bit of yellow to warm it up wiping off a lot of this paint off the brush, so I only want a little bit of it to add some transparent color over the water coming out from my light.

Just gonna brush this on the top of my water here and then pull the brush away so it gently fades into the ocean. can still see I'm leaving my waistline is visible. really struggling to bring out the glow of the sun on the water. I just love this part beautiful effect. Next more of this color and add yellow to it just to make it a bit darker. My color now when you use to finish out my lines of my waves right where it crosses over catching the glow of the sun.

So beautiful. Now I'm going to add white back into that color. Bring it back to the peachy Orange that we were just using. I'm gonna continue with this color on the beach. No light in that just a little bit more. Some white and yellow.

Add in all these nice streaks of highlights here on the beach. Taking these down the shoreline Beautiful. Now I'm going to take some yellow and mix it with red. To make a deeper orange. I'm going to take this orange right into my dark sand here, creating some gentle ripples in the sand. I'm gonna clean off my brush and finish it off just a bit of red can see with just a little bit of paint on the brush and achieve these very transparent brushstrokes just lightly, gently fade in or sand bringing some more red into these colors like that.

It's so playful. I love using these colors. Okay, rewind the video if you need to. So you can see all the places That I work these colors into. And then when you're finished with that step, press play. Wonderful.

Go ahead and clean off your medium size brush. And we're going to make some more of that beautiful salmony color with a red, yellow and white. So I'm going to start with a darker version of this color with my red and yellow. Just paint in some clouds, right here, above where the sun's going to be. And on either side This is a sunset that I photographed on the Oregon coast I believe it's just beautiful. I'm gonna add just a bit of white that color now.

More reds and yellows start to work that color up into the clouds those nice pink highlights Catching underneath the clouds. So I find my cloud here and then paint underneath it. catching these little clouds up here some of the undersides of these clouds up in here. Then finally, I had some more yellow, more white to make very light peachy color and some more white. Some clouds highlighted up in space here. Great, no red sauce my brush out one more Red Cloud, just adding just a bit of yellow to it to warm it up.

No put that cloud right in here. Well I have some of this red color just going To soften these ripples out, increasing the glow of them down on the beach, just filling out their colo. Wonderful. This is such a fun step adding these colors into the clouds. So go ahead and do this. And then when you're ready, press play Fantastic.

Go ahead and pick up your small brush. We're gonna add some details in the waves. Take some of my ultramarine blue and mix it just with a tiny bit of blue. I'm going to add white to it to lighten it up. I'm going to take this color now and I'm just gonna add a bit more weight to that. Just because I know in this acrylic dries it's gonna dry darker.

I'm gonna paint some of this sea foam in here, just coming off my wave. Some delicate little scribbling lines just flowing back towards the sea. See foam over here see farm off of this wave. Just doing little squiggly lines just along the crest of my way. Very little paint on my brush. Now further ways back here because they're farther away, there's not as much detail.

Just lightly brushing this color over. Perhaps there's a little crust of wave here, crashing down like that. With a bit of lighter paint, you can create a beautiful crashing wave and do that over here as well. Beautiful, I'm going to add a little bit of this color with a little bit of black on my ultramarine blue, some white to get some blue gray. Just gonna bring some of these reflections here onto my sand. So you can see I've wiped off most of the paint off my brush.

So then I can just drag some very light transparent brushstrokes. Over my canvas that brings up this nice effect to smooth that out a little bit beautiful. Right. Let's go ahead now and complete this step and clean off your brush. When you finished Pick up your medium sized brush now and take a little bit of black and mix it with red. We're gonna add some drift which were beach.

Just a couple shapes here, just resting in the sand in the log right there be a bit if they're great. Then I'm going to take my black net a little bit of white to it. A little bit of my brilliant blue. Just add some shadow underneath pieces of wood. Perfect. So rinse off your brush then take a little bit of red for some highlights just on the very tips of these logs just like so.

I take just a little bit of orange as well. here behind all right pause the video now and complete this step. So I've saved the best part for last. Go ahead and pick up your tiny brush and we're gonna paint in the sun. To start, I'm gonna take some yellow and mix it with white. Make a very bright yellow.

Just gonna take this color sworkit down here in the yellow. Just for some small little highlights, complaints of light and the brightest parts may take some pure yellow just fill out, all around that Just very delicate streaks, this yellow back and forth. just soften the glow. Beautiful. Now I'm going to take this bright yellow start with a circle here for My son and then take some pure white net right in the middle for beautiful glowing sun. You finish that part.

Rinse off your brush and take some pure yellow. We're gonna do the light beams. I'm just gonna start with halfway with the yellow. The yellow, fortunately goes on pretty transparently. So just a little bit on your brush is all you need to get the effect. Great, then finally, I'm going to take yellow.

Mix it with just a bit of red to make an orange. Again, wiping off most of the paint off the brush and I'll finish off these beams of light with my orange Just taking a little bit of yellow back over it brighten them up. Beautiful. Just first in touch ups now take some yellow. just soften some of these areas of red Just like the brush in this color over the red bring back out these highlights. Lovely Knights.

Hey, this painting is finished. Go ahead now and complete this last step bringing in the light into yours Feel so calm after painting this painting. I really enjoy teaching it to you and I hope you enjoyed it as well and I hope we can paint together
