Hello and welcome back in this video we're going to be talking about URL structures. A URL structure is also known as a permalink. A permalink is a permanent static hyperlink to a particular webpage or entry in a blog. It is a link that directs a person to a particular page on the web. Now, for example, you'll see permalinks and a search bar at the top of any page and I have a post that I've created right here. And I want to give you an example of the permalink you're going to see it right here in the search bar.
So it says never you find out marketing.com forward slash how dash, two dash B dash, more dash, productive dash marketing dash on dash, social dash media. There will be a link to this in the PDF that's available for this video. Now, if you click on link, you're going to be directed to the page You'll see the permalink displayed in the search bar, just like I've shown you here. Not only does the link direct the reader to a page, but it also tells a reader in search engine, what the post is about. Now I want you to take a look a closer look at the URL again, the URL is readable. And you can also have a good idea of what's inside the post without even opening it.
You know that it's telling you how to be more productive marketing on social media. This is known as a friendly SEO permalink. Have you ever seen a permalink that looks something like you have the website name and then forward slash there's a question mark a p equal sign and a bunch of numbers. And it also might look something like this, you have HTTP and you have the website name, forward slash and then just a bunch of numbers. These type of permalinks are also known as unfriendly SEO permalinks. They will direct you to a particular page on a web However, it does not tell search engines or You what the content is about.
Our friendly URL will have a better chance of ranking higher in search and clicked on by the user. To go to your permalink settings page, you want to sign in to your dashboard, you're going to go to settings on the left hand side and you're going to click on permalinks. You're going to be directed to a page where you can choose what URL structure you would like to have for your posts and pages. The best choice for you will be the post name option, which is a few down. This is a friendly SEO permalink structure we previously talked about. To activate this option, just click on the bubble next to the post name, scroll down to the bottom and click Save Changes.
You can change the setting if you've already been publishing posts in the past however, it is not recommended to change the permalinks for the post page after you have already been published. You do not want to change them. I recommend for you to hire a permanent To make the changes if you wish to, but your best bet is to maybe just forget about them. Leave them the way that they are and focus on the new posts. You'll be creating.
