An introduction to Stagecraft

Transcript

Hello, my name is Justin. This is my able assistant Luca and today we're going to be talking to you about stagecraft. Most people are not really aware of the amount of preparation it takes to put on a modern concert, there's an awful lot of equipment involved. And one of the secrets of presenting a show well and properly is being entirely on top of everything that is going on on the stage, or the placement of the cables, the loudspeakers, the microphone stands, all of the band's equipment, all need careful care and attention and thinking about in order to maximize the very small amount of space that we have available to ourselves. This means we need to pay special attention to where the cables are run needs to be. Side ones, we're going to run them over or under the stage, we need to decide how we're going to separate the power cables.

For example, from the signal cables, we need to be very diligent with our labeling of all of the boxes for the XLR inputs to the microphones. And the placement of the microphones, stands, cables, di boxes, all of the other ancillary pieces of equipment that we have to provide for the artist. Traditionally, in a venue like this, we will start with, as you can see, is a blank stage. It is our responsibility to get everything on this stage, working correctly for the best use of the artists in order so they can deliver the best possible show. Primarily we're concerned with safety, of course, both in terms of the crowd and the artist. We don't want anything sharp and E trip hazards and the possibility of anybody injuring themselves and then thing we need to be careful about things like open drinks containers been left lying around on the stage.

All you have to do is kick one bottle of beer over into a main socket Show's over as you go to well now, so that's what we're going to do today. We're going to start off by placing all of the monitor speakers on the stage. We're then going to put out cable for the mains. We're going to put some mains distribution boards out. We're going to put out microphones, stands, sub boxes, sub multis, and then we're going to wait for the band to arrive
