Hello and welcome to this video on how to build a studio in your home. What we are going to talk about now is all the technical aspects regarding a home studio setup. And we start with the audio because as you know by now, we don't have a clear audio your video is for nothing. Well don't get scared, because by pure audio I don't mean the best microphone you could ever have. But a small investment your first investment could be in a good audio and we have the either the Blue Yeti microphone which is here and this is good for narrating over slides or even you can connect connected while you record on the video and you can put it here on the table and you can can also deliver on video without having a lavalier microphone. So it's good for everything basically.
And Blue Yeti is has a great quality and I would recommend it as your first investment. If you don't have if you don't want to make any investment then you can just use your phone or laptop camera. They are not that good, but for your first course you can use them without any problem. A second tool that you could use an alternative let's say to the Blue Yeti microphone is a lavalier mic, which is this one over here. You can see it Alright, so definitely the lavalier mic can be inserted with a converter in your phone. I'm filming with my iPhone there so I can just drag a lot of cables here are the cables to my lavalier microphone.
I can Drag them towards the iPhone and just connect them and it will record directly or I can use voice recorder and here is my voice recorder which is running right now. I'm using the voice recorder just because I can move anywhere in the room without dragging your cable like a big tail. So this is regarding audio regarding video. Well I have my iPhone 3g now I have my iPhone success but before I started with my iPhone 3g s and you can see in this video how I looked with my iPhone three just in how he sounded without me break himself to 10 minute break this well. What is Optima? Oh my god.
Yes. So you can start with the iPhone 3g s and it's good enough. Then my next investment was a webcam. Yes a Logitech C 920 was my very next investment and it was good enough to do HD videos with it. After a while, while when I started earning more money from my courses I invested in better camera and then I just switched to the iPhone because I have the definite advantage of filming wherever I am while traveling abroad while being in town or just about wherever a small camera who do these things, but why carry two things when you can only carry one? So that was my reasoning, but you can also use camera record.
Sure. Okay, so video you can start with your iPhone, smartphone, whatever. Yes, I'm an apple fan. I know I'm repeating iPhone, even though maybe I shouldn't. You can use any other phone But, truth be told, I have no idea how to use an Android. I WAS MAC fan from the beginning, but it is over.
Okay, so next are the lights and how the light setup is interesting. Because you can film without any lights using natural lighting. I live on the seventh floor. So for me it's very easy to use light from there from my windows. And when the sun rises, I can just use that light and the video is good enough, not great, but good. If you don't want to use any lighting, you can go in the middle of the day in a park or in a quiet place where the natural sanch the natural light comes and your video quality will be great.
As long as you have a decent enough camera you don't even need to have a good camera. Lighting is actually a bit more important that the camera alright then if you want to invest for a home studio instead of a nature studio, you start by buying two lights and the lights can be in that direction at the 45 degree angle looking towards you all end the second one in the direction so basically, they are lighting us so your face is not in a shadow. If there is only one bite then you took like, half of your face is Darth Vader, it's black. And in my case, I'm only using one bite because I have my windows here with natural light. So basically, I get two lights bonus. Okay, here is my life.
No light, okay and an employee. Right? Yes. And after that the next to life that you could buy our lights for your background, actually You can film with any background as long as it's not. It doesn't. It isn't interesting for your audience like a plain background.
After a while, you can invest in a white background or a black background minus white. Or if you want to put the money in a green background with at least four lights, and the good camera and to have green screen basically to replace your background with movie or some picture or whatever. But this is quite a big investment. It takes quite a lot of time with the editing process, and it doesn't always look great. You really need to invest in quality materials there. So I wouldn't suggest it for your first few courses.
Okay, so you have to light and after that you I would suggest investing in a background. So the background is blind. You can just Or you can use maybe a library or I don't know something that's not interesting. Don't use the toilet as long as you don't recording the toilet. Like in the presentation video of this course it's all right. Or you can record jokes there.
Okay, then the next two lights so the third and fourth light are here and they are showing their lighting the background, my back. Basically what they do is differentiate me from the background. Okay. I have another light, it's under, it's right here. Here it is. And what this light does is to, again, push me out of the background so I stand up these two lights besides pushing me out of the background.
They also decreased the shadows that the other front lights are creating in the background. So basically, we don't see the shadow here from the light over there. And the shadow here in case if I would have a light over there due to these normal shadows, and also pushing the background to be a bit more whiter on the screen. So as for starting out, no lights, only natural light, maybe even filming outdoor if you want. Then two lights here and here. Then two more lights and the background here and here and they clear the shadows from the bedroom and also push a bit forward.
And after that another light over here to really bump you out of the background. Then what you could do is to have a light that meets your face a bit more to the yellow color. Let's say just to give you of color because these lights are all too white and what they do, especially if I want to clear my background, if I want to make my background very, very white, I just increase the brightness of the video. And then I need another light or a yellowish light to compensate for that brightness increase. For example, you can have room lightning, that's a big yellow and just push the open the light and get a bit of yellow on your face. All right, that's it with the lights.
What else prompter. I have a prompter over there and now my grandma, my prompter is not scrolling with text. It's just showing me some cues regarding what I need to talk about and send you a screenshot. And also besides the prompter, I have a lot of gadgets. So I have a Bluetooth keyboard with which I can control my prompter. I can press space like I showed you in some of the other videos.
And then stop and start the prompter, whenever my script goes a bit too fast, or I can even increase or decrease the speed. Then I have apps like telecom glass, which from which I can control the prompter from my phone. But now I'm using my phone for filming. So Hannah's not using that app anymore. I'm just using the same teleprompter app without being able to control it from the phone, controlling it from the Bluetooth keyboard. And there's also another app which is prompt smart, which is used, which I sometimes use via voice control, because while I speak the text scrolls, when the app understands what they speak, it's close this close this close.
The problem is that some times it doesn't understand and then I need to just scroll it a bit manually. So I go there, it's probably a bit I turn back and in the video I cut but it's a nice idea. It pretty useful, and in the future, they will probably get some better voice recognition. Or maybe my accent sucks, I don't know. Good. Then there is the USB camera dongle with which I can open my camera, my video and with which I can start with a video and I can stop my video.
All right, I have other props like I wrote a table here, which is right here on which I put everything like my laptop and everything else. Besides the table I have fought sometimes the chair and the record myself just to stay up to the laptop. It sometimes looks more interesting, especially if I don't want to move a lot or gesture a lot and some other creative things. Alright, that's about it with These materials you can create a home studio. And as I said, you can start without really anything except a smartphone. And as I said in the beginning, you can start even without a smartphone, just by creating a presentation using keynote or PowerPoint, and then recording your voice over that over a video in which you play the slides.
This also works so it's up to you how much or how little you want to invest. I also prepared the document called technical equipment which contains everything I discussed here. Enjoy and good luck creating your own home studio. Bye bye
