Hope you know I'm getting a bit used to me saying that how amazing is Inkscape for all this flexibility and how you can create very versatile object and just modify them for your need. And you should, you should think about it a lot and think how you can reuse pieces. So you remember, we created this platform actually from this basic platform, changing only the colors and the bit the grass, hanging grass, you changed into bicycles, and we created different feeling it looks like it's icy. So let's do the same for the background. We just have the basic background, we know roughly the sizes here where the ground ends here are the mountains. So I just took it from here and duplicated.
I asked my little fellow to go on the side. Actually, you can stand here, my friend. Let's kill these things together. And he's standing already on an icy port and I don't need that these and they don't need these. Also the front one, what I do now is try to figure out how an icy part will look being having the same amount of objects in the front, middle and the background. So it is what we call a mutation of the spring for SD setup, so I will do the same with the same just a bit different if I have this.
As I said this color of the background is very strange. If I make it like this and changing a bit, It's getting colder darker, a bit between the and wintery. My clouds are not fluffy and Like in the summer, I can throw my own clouds waving in the wind, very flat ones. But if I want any clouds, what I would do now is just doing this. I draw a line with the pencil, which is the freehand tool. I push Ctrl L, you know, just to, if you see Ctrl L is removing some nodes, which I don't need even flatout some, I don't want any edges on my cloud, then I must make some.
Notice here and I finish it also on this part. So what I have is the cloud which can end here and start here. Yes, it's exactly the same method we used with the trees. tell you one thing, which I didn't say before, but if you think about it, you will understand it. Why am I doing it? I'm doing it like this.
This is not nice. So why am I doing it that on a tile on the repeating tile, I'm not simply stop here where the edge is stopping. Because this is recognizable easy, easily that this is repeating if I will also stop the clouds here. Everyone would notice that this is repeating and this is the edge of repetition. But if I cut my clouds if my caught my clouds, I made this wonder if I caught my clouds a bit more. Then I can do the same what I did with the trees in the previous one the line of trees in the background.
I just duplicate this and I can have people feeling that they cannot exactly put their finger on it. That there is the edge of the screen and for this one what I want to replicate them well even better the match so nicely just playing with the clouds a bit Yes, it's around here. Okay do now is I cut this one off and I cut this one off. And if I put this here and it's still continuous, yes. So I did it a bit different now but I still have the feeling that these are repeating repeating can make them gray and white, too bright and go for the bluish colors now because it's a windy background. Obviously the top of the mountains cannot be blue.
This much blue has to be white Inkscape has this amazing stuff that this is going the gradients are going from white to blue transparent. So the in between there is still a tiny bit of blue there. Same goes here. I applied the same gradient if I find it it was this one. Yes the latest obviously. And what I also do I play a bit with the mountains remember we were making them a bit bouncy and the top bit curved.
We do the opposite now, I want some really sharp and icy and windy mountains. Control click I can remove the edges this one cannot be recycled. So we have some different type of mountains no sharper and maybe taller even I can play with that. Obviously the ground cannot be that cannot be Green anymore. It has to be white. Or in this case, something like very light, very, very light blue, because there's still the background.
They just make it fade out. That's nice. So this is my tiling background now, very wintery. I just group it for you and show how it goes. Nice and what is my foreground is now a bit different. I have this little guy can if you can obviously program it, you can make some falling snow.
I'm not throwing it. I just throwing it now how it would look in your game. I set it even to one object. This is how falling snow would cover up the background and everything but obviously It's not an object we need, because that's just doable from code, just other little particle and that's it. And I have my white surface. And now I see the head that I have to make the background a bit more darker in the front because I need it to stand out.
So also for these two mountains have to give some different color. Have to do something with it, because I want this to stand out more. So I want maybe in the back I want to create maybe in the back I want to create a layer of darkness as well. Let's just try that. Again, this color, make it even more dark. Does that look nice stands up nicer.
And the background, the blue sky I can make much, much brighter. And then these clouds I can make as well. To switch the views these clouds I can make stand up because now they are too visible. See I have this court feeling down here. And what I create as the background here on the bottom is I make it white. I say like this is the front of it.
I will use the same gradient which is here. It's 5194 For Yes, here I have it. Then set it up for myself. And the objects I create are again the stones I created before I can have this thing and the stone as well. All right, can you draw new ones it doesn't really matter because not big of a change, change. You see it's very easy.
I'm relocating them and that's it. These two just want to make them stand out more. You see I'm picking colors from everywhere and I'm using a color palette fitting and also here in the clothes background because it's an ice and windy place. I can create Big icicles just not trees but icicles. I know how to make that. Like really big in broken ones.
They look like ice crystals and you can create some additional lumps of snow. So you can make this color create different type of snow like this So that's it. What we did now I just don't pull them apart because they won't be visible on divide. They are okay. So what we did is just a few very simple shapes. Use usable on this winter one.
And of course if we want the three, we can go back the three shape we have here and create a pine tree. in this situation a pine tree wouldn't be that alive. I would give it a different color. Maybe I don't need this branch on the left. But I do it like this like it's a broken one. See how pine trees going up for no one I just created like this make the bottom part.
I'm really just drawing with the pen tool. merge it, do the same again. We'll see it in a second. Do the same again. It's really just playing with the shape. And then I can do to put this, make it a bit smaller and put it on the top.
Reusing elements, reusing elements all the time helping you it doesn't mean that you are not creating anything new. It means that you are using your resources if this is the bottom Make it even cooler looking and I'm just picking some other colors So I have the feeling that it's windy, cold winter background. I'm just picking gradients again. I have a pine tree and I can put it also here on the back. And that's it I have the same effect I had before my platforms are working Microraptor is very visible. And he can jump over places and go to places.
So this is a different one, if you can compare the two of them. This is a winter scene, and this is one for a very lively forest. And this is how I usually do Do I just modify and think about it and try to make parallel solutions. So if I have an object, a stone, which is here a stone here, it can be a piece of ice. If I have a three here, which is all alive and the big oak tree, I can make a blue frozen unfriendly, three have that in here. I can even make this whole thing a bit cool, flat color and make it in the background.
Maybe that one is even working better for me. So just delete this one. And then make a flat one of these so it's going more in the background. You can create again, play with the three. See I'm having ideas all the time. When I'm drawing, it's up to you only.
Oh, you put your trees down in your game editor. So my platforms are even more visible and my characters even more visible if the trees are flat, it's up to you to decide. So I hope you enjoyed also this tutorial and we will move on to something else. Next
