So as you see, the first lessons are about Inkscape. In general, because we cannot draw our game art without knowing the basic properties of Inkscape, or what Inkscape is capable of. So let's just get a bit familiar with Inkscape. And then in the next sessions, we actually start to draw something, but first, get Inkscape from instead inkscape.org. And when you install it, and first open it, this is what you will see by default. These big whitespace is called the canvas.
Imagine if this like big wide table in front of you with an a4 page in the middle. These pages here only for printing reference, I can draw all around it so you can be really like a key drawing everywhere. You can draw really everywhere and you can create shapes and colors and everything you want. We will get to that later. But first, as you see at the top bar The top part is the command bar and the menu bar with several icons for saving opening, adding new project and other icons I will talk about later. This is us like invert or any other programs actually.
So here on the top you can get the basic things, this is where you can save your project. And, and here are a lot of little windows, which are going to talk about later is just so many drop down menus. Inkscape can be very deep and a bit confusing sometimes. But have no fear because we're gonna go through everything. So apart from these two lines, the menu and the command bar here under it is the control bar for the tools. Because these on the left is the toolbox.
This is where the magic happens. This is my favorite part of Inkscape because we always going to click around it. And if for example, I'm clicking on the rectangle tool, too to create squares and rectangle, mind that this is changing. If I'm creating, if I'm clicking on the selection tool, this is changing again. So this line is the common knife for the actual tools. It's changing all the time when I'm using the tool, here's where I can set my tool.
And here on the bottom, you can see her rainbow of colors. And this is the color palette, obviously, we have quite a lot. And of course you can mix and match and make your own color. I will show it in a whole lesson it will be only coloring, and we will have a lot of fun in that one. here in the right one. These are about snapping and guides.
I will talk about that later. It's very, it's a very good part that you can snap your drawings. It will be particularly interesting for us when we are into animating our game characters. So this is the interface of Inkscape and in the next lesson, we will Draw our first object
