So in the previous lessons, we learned the basic drawing tools in Inkscape. We already created some simple and more complex objects. And this is fine and we will do a lot of that in the upcoming lessons. But as I said, we will create all the graphical elements of your 2d games. And a big part of that are the different type of icons and buttons we use. And so the graphical user interface where the user can interact apart from moving a character or working with objects or shooting enemies.

So what we will create now is we will create several buttons. I will teach you how the text tool is working in Inkscape. And then we will modify these buttons and create different versions, different graphical versions to suit your game. And then I will show you how you asked me the other lessons I suppose you just follow first what I do learn the tool and then You do your own magnification and do some real world live object you need now for your game so if it's science fiction make it look science fiction if it's if it's fantasy make it you know, you know what I'm talking about. So first, let's just follow the money. What do we what is a button?

A button is a very simple thing. It's basically a base shape and the text on it. So if I want this my button, you know this I have this coordinating option in the square tool. This is the base of my button. Then I have to put some text on it and I do that with this text tool. Here in the toolbox.

The letter A. I just selected you see the cursor is changing to letter A as well. I click somewhere and I had my text say Good. If you notice, the, I think the most important part of the text in Inkscape is a text is also working as any other object. So, if you go to the selection tool, you select your object, you can rotate it, you can, you know, shrink it and you can cover it with a quick. So it's very, very easy to color it and move it around. So for this, it's very, very easy and convenient to put this text on your button and do you know change it and modify it.

What I usually say about text is whenever you scale it, please always push the control hold the control because it's not good if you scale it down. like this or this, if you want the font typeface, you know, which is narrow, then select the narrow one, look up and select three or by five by a typeface, which is narrow, because different typefaces are not working if you distort them. So I always always say to my students and to everyone with changing the size of the font, please hold control if you transform them like this, so they keep proportion. The other important thing about text and buttons is that it has to be with contrast in the background. So if I make it make the background, this type of green, then this dark blue stand out from it. If I make it very bright with white, this is standing out also nicely.

But if I make it, let's say Another type of green, you know, it's not enough contrast. So the reader cannot read it properly A lot of times, and if it will be smaller, you know, it doesn't work. So just give it enough contrast. That's, that's my other rule. So the first one is don't squeeze the text never ever distorted and use enough contrast to read it because the text is there to read. So how do we change the text as well in Inkscape, if the text tool is selected, and then here in the toolbar, you can see the according bar to test to this particular tool, and you see you can set the typeface the font family, you can set the size of the font, you can set toggle, if it's bold or normal, if it's a colleague, you can set the alignment of the text, line height and the different positioning between the text.

These are all for you can Try out and play around with these. What I will do now is a single button so I don't need multi line text I can just use this one we are tuber texts which we use usually have four buttons. So I have the basic shape I have the text in it. I set a nice color for it. But I'm not satisfied with the with the font family. I can choose from here or I can push this T here on the top and I see all my fonts which are installed on my machine so I can roll through.

Set whatever I need. I see how it will look. I push apply. And here it is. This is it. I use the text tool and I created the very very basic button.

We are going to show More about the buttons and how to align them in the next lesson.
