Now I'm going to teach you three riffs or short melodies, using the G major scale. I'm going to use tab in this lesson. So if you're not too familiar with tab, you can go to the previous lesson, scroll to the last part and just soak that in and hopefully get a stronger understanding. Or you can just, you know, see if he can catch on as we go. So the first riff or short little melody, it's gonna be really straightforward. I'll play it for you.
And then you can play along, it's just three notes. Okay, so see if you can follow along here now. It's just the G, open G, second fret on the G string. Just a note and then Dr G. So if you can see on the tab, again, the bottom line is the low E string. And then going up from there, you'll see where the G string is. And then you can see where it just has a zero which means open G and then second fret on the G string, which is a, and then open D. We'll call that riff number one.
Let's do riff number two, starts on the D string. I'll play it for you first. probably heard that 1000 times. Right, so now you can try playing along with me. open D string, second fret on the D string, E, and then open G. So that's slow or fast. In the right hand, I'm just picking down.
Now that you've got those first two riffs, let me show you one more goes like this. So nice and slow, B string, first fret on the B string, third fret on the B string, first fret, E string and open B string. Notice that comes directly from the G major scale just going up starting on the B note C, D, and then back down D, C, D. That's where that famous Ode to Joy melody comes in. Right. Okay, let's do that. Again, really looking at the tab.
So open B string, so you see again in the tab on the Beeline part where it represents the people strings zero should be a one on the B, B string, first fret and then three, meaning third fret on the B string. And then back to one, same string, and then euro to finish off the riff. Now we'll go on to lesson seven, where we will learn how to use those riffs in order to solo over the key of G chord progression.
