What about insulin and leptin resistance? Now, I will be discussing leptin resistance in a little bit more detail later on in the lecture. But these two go hand in hand, you've already gone through the process of what it means to be insulin resistance. But if you are insulin resistant, then in all probability, you are also leptin resistant. Insulin resistance increases the sensation of hunger. Because with the insulin resistance, the glucose has not been taken into the cells.
And the perception is, is that for the cells is that they're starving. So it's it triggers the hunger signal. Also, people who've become insulin resistant, historically consume very high calorie, but low nutrient food. Again, starving the body for nutrients. Lipton on the other hand, is the whole Moon tells the brain that the body has had enough food. Now, leptin resistance works similar to insulin resistance in that when you are leptin resistant, your brain is not hearing the signal.
So neuropeptide y, which is a hormone that triggers the handle had a hunger response is not being heard by the brain. So it carries on flowing in the body and it's not cut off. And then of course, because we still think we're hungry, we're going to eat more. Now, a diet low in nutrients is also going to result in cravings.
