Hi, I'm Alan freezin, Employee Benefit Specialist, I have another tip for you to help you get the best value out of your group Benefit Program. This benefit tip is about Ltd top Ltd stands for long term disability. Now just as a reminder as to how long term disability works, what it does is replaces your earnings if you can't work for an extended period of time. So as an example, let's say Steve, young guy, he's 30. He's got a couple kids, he's married, he gets into a diving accident and unfortunate becomes a quadriplegic. Bad news.
The good news is that Steve has long term disability coverage and it replaces 85% of his net earnings that's generally about how they're structured replaces 85% of your of his net earnings. So let's say in Steve's case, that's $3,000 a month. So Steve's gonna have an income at least while he has this. issue of for the duration of that problem. So that's the good news. The bad news of course is in some disabilities, the in Steve's case as an example, he does not have the ability to do the things that you and I take for granted every day the activities of daily living.
So in the case of an Ltd top up so add on to a long term disability contract this Ltd can't top up with the Ltd top up what it does, it provides another 50% of the value so in this example 1500 dollars, so 3000 plus the 1500 dollars, which helps him to pay for the support he needs to do the activities of daily living, which is great thing so it's very rounds out and really completes the long term disability protection is what it does. Further. What's interesting, let's say that Steve takes advantage of the rehabilitation opportunities and gains uses his his past knowledge and skills and employees in a different capacity. Great for him. So now He's working. But so long as that condition is still met, he still receives the Ltd top benefit.
So he would no longer be eligible for the $3,000 a month because he's replaced that earnings. Now he's now working and earning that so he doesn't need the disability coverage anymore. But the 1500 a month for the top of benefits still continues. So that's a pretty cool benefit in some way to really enhance the long term disability benefit.
